The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[He'd recognize that voice shouting his name anywhere, and hers comes out of his mouth before his brain even registers that he can see her too.]

Rey!

[He plants his feet at least as he sees her barreling towards him, his arms outstretched to catch her.]

[ Her chest thumps hard against his, but she savors the ache in her ribs as her arms circle his shoulders to hold him tight. He's on his feet. He's alive. She'd dreaded her own hope for so long, and worried more still since the moment she set foot in this world that it meant she'd really never be able to keep her promise. But he was here, and solid, and real, and everything she'd hoped for was realized in the simplicity of that fact. ]

[He squeezes back, probably not helping out the whole breathing situation, but he can't help it. After running into Poe only to not even have the man recognize him, he'd been worried that she wouldn't either.

This clearly laid that worry to rest.]

Someone told me you were here and I almost couldn't believe it.

I knew I'd find you again.

[ She breathes the faith out into his shoulder, turning her head against the crook of his neck before she pulled back halfway, as if reluctant to draw her hands back, to break the contact. ]

But I thought I'd have to go looking. How long have you been here?

[That's fine, he's not going anywhere. He doesn't seem to want to let go, either.

He hadn't really known if she was even alive until Thea mentioned her, considering how he'd woken up here, half dead. He's never felt this kind of relief in his entire life, so different from the kind you feel when you survive some kind of ordeal. This was way more intense, the reprieve from the constant aching worry that he hadn't been able to help her.]

I don't know exactly. A couple weeks? I guess I spent a bunch of time in the infirmary. [A beat.] How long have you been here?

Since winter. When I came, it was all covered in snow.

[ Just like Starkiller, when they'd left it. She left that part out. It seemed to go without saying, since it was the last they'd truly seen of each other. A sobriety settled about her expression quite suddenly then, and she looked deep in his eyes. ]

Have you seen him yet?

So...longer than a few weeks?

[Maybe their seasons are really short. He has no idea.

He frowns for a moment, assuming what she's getting at.]

You mean Poe?

[The expression on his face clearly says yes.]

[ She shakes her head quickly, breezing straight over the sense of loss that comes with Poe's memory to something far more affecting. Her voice is a paradox of earnestness and grief. ]

No. Han. He's alive.

[Watch his face literally change expressions like three or four times before he gets the words out.]

....What!? I mean...that's great, but...

[LITERALLY HOW???]

Because everything that happened since we met him, it hadn't happened for him yet! [ She begins to pace the room with him, looking for a quiet corner. After all, she hasn't told anyone else that Han Solo should be dead. ] I don't know how, but I don't care. He's here, and the First Order isn't.

[He follows after her obediently, not really even paying attention to where they're walking. The rest of the room could cease to exist, for all he cared at the moment.]

You mean he's from our past?

[A beat as he tries to not sound like an idiot for even saying it, but what ELSE could that mean.]

So then how long has he been here?

He has to be, right? [ It doesn't all line up. He doesn't seem to know about Kylo Ren. And he has Jaina. ] Did you know he had a daughter too?

I mean, yeah, I guess so? [At least she's agreeing with him and isn't calling him crazy.] A daughter? No. I mean, it's not like we talked in depth about his family tree or anything, but you'd think that might have come up.

Just like his son did?

[ She sounds reproachful, but her distaste is reserved for the son and not the father. Regardless, that special family moment and what they'd overheard on the bridge stuck with her too keenly for her to overlook the possibility that maybe Han just wasn't a sharer. ]

Who, by the way, I don't think he even knows about!

[He pauses for a moment before relenting:]

Okay, I guess that's true.

[Han had his reasons for not wanting to talk about his son, though. Who would want to just bring something like that up?]

Wait, so now he has two kids and he doesn't remember either of them?

[Finn hasn't quite figured out yet that he's missing big chunks of his past, himself.]

That's what the Veil does.

[ She shakes her head, pained by it but resigned. ]

It takes things from you, like it took my parents.

[He frowns deeply. He never knew his parents, but at least he remembers the fact that he never had a chance of remembering them in the first place.

That said, Han Solo's lost memories fall by the wayside as he registers the expression in her face.]

I'm sorry, Rey. That's...awful.

[ She shakes her head to dismiss the sympathy. She doesn't know what else to do with it. It's all that she can guess she might have lost—clearer memories from a spotty childhood. ]

Maybe it's better. I wouldn't know, would I?

[His nod is half-hearted. It's something he's thought about before, and he never quite figured out an answer to it, either.]

Maybe. I wouldn't really know, either.

[ Sad.

She grabs his hand. ]

Come on. Han doesn't remember me, but maybe he remembers you.

[He glances down at their hands and then back up at her before he nods.]

Yeah, maybe he will. Can't hurt to ask.

[ Rey takes off to guide him through the crowd of people in the room, searching Han out while she does, her hand clinging tightly to Finn's. It's a warm, comforting feeling that she missed, and she won't be ready to surrender it anytime soon ]

[She catches Han right as he's heading for the doors, Chewie close on his heels and panting. He glances over at them.]

What?

[It doesn't really hit him until Finn's standing right in front of him how crazy this all is.]

Hey, uh, Mr. Solo. You don't remember me by chance, do you?

[He's pretty sure he already knows that answer though, considering he didn't say anything the moment he saw him.]

This is Finn.

[ Rey sounds wary, like she's not sure if it bears explaining. ]

He only just arrived. I ... wasn't sure how much you'd remember.
