Killian sad sailor friend has long fled, assuming his wife is long dead, but the Knights have come to find out the truth and discover what exactly the skum are doing with these villagers and stop it. Because it is definitely horrifying.

[ hawke is pretty sure there's nothing out there to hear, but she squints off into the distance anyway (listen 9, spot 15). the dog, however (THAT HAS BEEN HERE THE ENTIRE TIME), SEES EVERYTHING (listen 15, spot nat. 20). ]

[ faith doesn't say anything as she gets up, so caught up in taking in the sights and sounds of the place (nat 20 spot, 21 listen). when she gets on the dock, she wraps her arms around her body, a chill coursing through her. ]

[Zaihne lets out a brief, dissenting grunt as he finally pulls himself up onto the dock, hooking his thumbs into his pockets as he follows Killian inland, narrowed eyes scanning their surroundings (spot 2, listen 15).]

[The area is pretty aggressively empty, with very few signs of movement anywhere, but Faith sees people in the distance by the lighthouse. The dog sees it too, but with that nat 20 also sees a squirrel and needs to make a wisdom check to decide which is more important.]

[ the squirrel. it's definitely the squirrel (wisdom 5). the dog is useless. OOPS. ]

[ it's ok, faith is here! she points up towards the direction of the people ] How about something more inclined to talk than a storm or beast?

[Thoster grins at Faith.]

As smart as she is beautiful. [He winks at her before turning to Killian.]

We might spook them if we all come at once. Maybe a few of us could hang back to keep a look out for anything odd?

[He respects that this is Killian's mission and is looking for his directive as captain]

[Zaihne squints one eye, skeptical.]

Splitting up in unfamiliar territory that's practically screaming 'imminent doom' at us as we made landfall. That sounds like a fantastic idea.

[He couldn't be more sarcastic if he tried.]

We might spook them, but it's better than showing up undermanned and being overwhelmed.

Lad's right. There's not enough of us for some to stray too much. But be on guard.

[He nods towards the lighthouse, then starts towards it, hand resting on the pommel of his sword.]

I'm going to suggest he not be the one to do the talking then. [Thoster says with a shrug.] Not going to be much good to talk to anyone if they think we're here for a fight before we know what side they're on.

I'll talk! I'm good at making new friends. [ she also doesn't wait for anyone to agree, least of all the mission leader, instead bounding up the hill ahead of them without any thought to a weapon, waving at the first person she sees ] Ahoy!

[The handsome bastard looks up at her suspiciously. He's strangely hunched with pallid, waxy skin.]

Well, well. Don't get many outsiders round these parts. What are you haranguing around for?

[ to her benefit, she doesn't look weirded out at all by his appearance. but she does try to puzzle out whether she recognizes his race (arcane lore 12). prolly not lol ] We just ran aground nearby and were hoping to stop for at least a night. [ casual bluff 29 ]

[hawkeing]

[ hawke resists the urge to facepalm (will save 21) but she is officially calling faith merrill now. ]

[She doesn't recognize his race. But he doesn't catch her lie (sense motive 26), so hey, win some lose some. He squint at her.]

You should keep on moving, lass. This place gets downright ostentatious at night. Go on to the next town.

Maybe I'm a fan of ostentation.

[He keeps squinting. "Not like this you ain't." He looks past her. "Got an interesting crew with you, there."]

[ Mars had been quiet almost the whole way, someone doesn't have a stomach for the sea, and is still feeling green around the gills. Still he's watching Faith and the strange man, worried for his friend. ]
