It's hard to notice right away. For the most part, everything looks normal. The toilets flush in the right direction. The sky's still up. The buildings are still scraping the clouds. But something about it feels wrong, and the details come in waves.

The first wave is that no one is in the castle, or in England, or even in Saudi. It's hard to tell where they are, except it's close to the equator. Warm. Sunny. And a city. Maybe they're lucky. Maybe someone's there to greet them, if not in this bed that isn't theirs, then in this apartment that isn't theirs, or this house.

But out in the streets, things get stranger. Gone are the gleaming glass and metal frames of the skyscrapers, replaced with statuesque marble shaped into hellenic curves. Everything is bright colors and bronze. The metal coins people trade for currency have a wolf's head stamped on them, valid only in the Republic of Midgard.

The world is wrong. And no one but those in the room with Loki and Jordan seem to remember why.


[ ooc note; WHILE THE SAUDI ARABIA MISSION wraps up their encounter with Loki, everyone is invited to play in the whackadoodle AU that Loki created by making Jordan grant his wish to rule a world full of all the things Loki desires, where Thor is nowhere to be found. Consider this your dystopian/framework/everyone's dead AU event. Please note that only mission characters will remember the events of Earth-11, as they've only been transported to a parallel universe. Everything you play is for fun, not for character arc. ]

caroline is dumped unceremoniously headfirst into dark water, in a beautiful vampire diaries parallel moment. swim check gurl. is caroline high enough level for water to kill her yet in 3 rounds? time to found out. ]

[ the bad part about hitting the water face first is that caroline screams in panic and chokes on a bunch of water before she manages her splash her head above water. (swim 22) SHE DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS ELENA GILBERT LIFE. ]

[ for a moment, she gets the dizzying sense that the territory around is distinctly... familiar. make a wisdom check yo ]

[ wise as a potted plant, this one. (wis 10) but she does start looking around like ??? land ??? (spot 24) and grumbling to herself ] I thought... Saudi Arabia... was a desert.

[ no desert here. the ground is spotted with remnants of vegetation, but most of it is dark and wrong, and gives way to dark rocky ground that stretches up towards some sort of vast and intimidating structure in the darkness beyond. there's a smaller building perched on the edge of the body of water, a looming but ramshackle wooden construction, from which no light comes through the door or windows. ]

[ she is going to claw her ass over to the unibomber's shack even though it looks like a death trap. (swim 21) ]

[ yep, there's a creepy ass door there - only one, it seems, and one dark window. ]

[ nervous, caroline carefully wrings out her hair and her shirt and swipes at her pants like she can dry them off with her mind. turns out no. unwinding her scarf, she drops it on the ground, there is really no salvaging that.

creeping toward the window, she tries to listen for anyone inside before she looks in the window. she doesn't want to get shot by some crotchety old man like the happening. (listen 26) ]

[ it's eerily, deathly silent inside. she can make out a wooden table, some bladed weapons lying on it. this is fine. ]

[ NONE OF THIS IS FINE. she pulls her phone out of her pocket, frowning at it and whispering ] Please, please, please, please, please [ before she presses the home button. DID HER PHONE SURVIVE??? ]

[ ... womp womp.

NO SERVICE. ]

[highlyemotional]

[ with a frustrated shriek, caroline hurls the phone into the water, turning back to kick the house. might as well go inside if she's going to have to hunger games her way out of this. she can use the weapons. so she's going to try the door and if it's locked she is going to break the door off it's freakin' hinges and throw it in the water too. (strength... nat 20)

does she smack right into an invisible force field because this is someone's actual sad house? for their sake she hopes not. ]

[ nope, she just walks right in as the door sinks into the dark water outside. the place looks really sad - despite it not having an owner apparently, there is a pallet in one corner that might be a bed, or serve as one, occasionally. the weapons on the table merit a second look - spot check from here ]

[ she heads right for them because that was her goal in breaking in anyway. (spot 20 total) ]

[ there's a short sword, a pair of kukris, and a dagger. all of them have dried blood on the blades. ]

[ GROSS.

yes, she can drink blood and think that is gross. have some respect for your things. that she is promptly going to steal even though she doesn't know how to use any of them. whatever, she will learn. tyler made her watch crouching tiger, hidden dragon. ]

[recycling]

[ except the moment she reaches for it, something steps from the shadows, a hand vise gripping her shoulder and whirling her around. she finds herself staring into the familiar and brightly crimson eyes of ...

davin. ] What do you think you're doing?

[highlyemotional]

Davin! [ her shriek this time, right in his face, is relieved and she goes to throw her arms around him. they're not even the closest, but literally anyone familiar would get the same treatment. ]

[recycling]

[ he goes stiff, practically recoiling as if he thinks this is an attack, one hand gripping her arm before he realizes what is happening ]

... Caroline?

[highlyemotional]

Duh! [ why is he not happy to see her? she knows she can be abrasive with her almost psychotic chipperness but she still thought-- well, maybe he is just startled because she is hugging him in this--

she jerks back suddenly. ]

What are you doing in this terrible place?

[recycling]

What I have to do to survive. Something you're clearly not worried about anymore if you came back here. [ he keeps her by the arm and moves to close the door, glancing out at it, paranoid ] What the hell were you thinking?

[highlyemotional]

I wasn't thinking! I just fell into the water. [ which, hey! she pokes his chest with her index finger. ] Did you hear me splashing outside and you didn't come get me?

[recycling]

I thought I'd have to kill you. I'm still--

[ he hesitates, shaking his head ] You know that's what I'm supposed to do.

[highlyemotional]

Excuse me, what? [ she tries to jerk her arm out of his grasp, but she presumably fails. (strength 8) ]

[recycling]

[ yeah no ] No Knight left standing. Those are his orders.
