It's hard to notice right away. For the most part, everything looks normal. The toilets flush in the right direction. The sky's still up. The buildings are still scraping the clouds. But something about it feels wrong, and the details come in waves.

The first wave is that no one is in the castle, or in England, or even in Saudi. It's hard to tell where they are, except it's close to the equator. Warm. Sunny. And a city. Maybe they're lucky. Maybe someone's there to greet them, if not in this bed that isn't theirs, then in this apartment that isn't theirs, or this house.

But out in the streets, things get stranger. Gone are the gleaming glass and metal frames of the skyscrapers, replaced with statuesque marble shaped into hellenic curves. Everything is bright colors and bronze. The metal coins people trade for currency have a wolf's head stamped on them, valid only in the Republic of Midgard.

The world is wrong. And no one but those in the room with Loki and Jordan seem to remember why.


[ ooc note; WHILE THE SAUDI ARABIA MISSION wraps up their encounter with Loki, everyone is invited to play in the whackadoodle AU that Loki created by making Jordan grant his wish to rule a world full of all the things Loki desires, where Thor is nowhere to be found. Consider this your dystopian/framework/everyone's dead AU event. Please note that only mission characters will remember the events of Earth-11, as they've only been transported to a parallel universe. Everything you play is for fun, not for character arc. ]

[Malina also turns at the sound of the familiar voice, and her eyes go a bit wide because yep. That's definitely Skye.]

Better question - where the fuck are we?

[Jane has literally no idea who this woman is.]

You know I hate it when you call me that. It's Daisy now.

[ She makes a face at Alex like it's offhand. She's more concerned about Malina and Jane. ]

We're in Paris. Where we have been for the past two years. [ she sighs and walks closer. ] Look, I know you guys said no unfamiliar faces, but ... it sounds like you're concussed. I can get someone over here to check you out. Someone we can trust.

[ the cot beside daisy's work station abruptly starts to rustle, and a figure sits up in it, running a hand through mussed hair and reaching over to grab a shirt from where it hangs on the back of her seat. a sleepy voice that is all too familiar asks: ] Whozzat? [ and peter's head pokes up. ]

Daisy. [begrudgingly, like he's humoring a bratty child which is basically what it feels like because he has negative amount of patience for this.

and then ... peter exists. he can't decide if he's proud or annoyed??? there are just too many feelings right now.]

Are you ... what. Seriously?

[There would be more swearing, but Malina needs information still, so she'll just close her eyes, waving a hand as she does. Still, the fact that so many of her friends - alternate universe or not - are in one area and she's more than willing to trust Skye/Daisy in terms of what she can handle, but ...]

I don't think we need a doctor. But if you could just ... humor us for a second and catch us up on the last two years? Why are we in Paris?

[Paris was not a relevant location to any of them - at least not together. So that must be something unique to Loki's fantasy, even if the people aren't.]

[innovates]

[Riiiiight. She's just gonna go with her original plan and head over to that computer hub and see what she can figure out on her own because she's having all sorts of weird vibes about everything right now (computer use 23).]

[hacker]

[ a grim unhappiness flashes over Skye—Daisy's—face. ]

[ it's brief, conquered quickly by alarm as she twists around to stop jane. ]

Quill, will you— [ She waves at Alex and Malina, then heads over to stop Jane. ] Don't touch that. It's running a hack I designed to try and get past our Benevolent Overlord's safeguards.

[ yanking on that shirt, peter looks between them all, squinting at alex and malina ] Just how hammered did you two get last night?

[There's a wry smirk at that.]

Clearly not enough. Just ... I know this sounds batshit, but please?

[so deadpan, just going along with it in hopes that it will expedite the exposition process] Very. I also have a history of seizures, so who knows what it looks like in my brain. [which is true ... so it's fine.] If you could just catch us up to speed, that would be great. I hate when my brain damage interferes with the rest of my day.

[starprince]

Great. We talked about this guys. [ he runs a hand through his hair and glances back at daisy, before shrugging and continuing ] After what happened in London, there weren't very many of us left, not who saw a point in fighting anymore at least. Some people had lost too much.

The rest of us made our way here, remember? To the old Knights HQ underground? This was supposed to be one of the first headquarters, or at least the dungeon of it.

Viva la Resistance, amirite?

Hey, I'm all for a little rebellion.

[She nods a bit, as she glances around. If this is the old Paris HQ then at least she knows her way around. Being a Knight for too damn long has it's benefits.]

Going to take a swing and say our Benevolent Overlord is Loki?

[innovates]

[Jane frowns, heading back over after being told not to mess with the computers.]

I really wish I had my equipment right now...

[hacker]

[ Daisy points to Malina like ding ding. ]

So you do remember. I guess he leaves a worse impression. SHIELD came in—what was left of it—and tried to help us mop up, but ... soon, their resources were depleted too. This is all that's left.

[he wonders what happened in london, how much was lost in terms of people and things but quickly decides that he's not going to waste his time getting verklempt over some alternative timeline that SHOULD NOT EVEN EXIST because of fucking loki.]

It's not supposed to be like this.

[Malina glances over to him, resting her hand on his arm gently, a silent promise of "we'll fix it," before asking the question that Alex didn't want to.]

Are there any other pockets of Knights left? Anyone we're coordinating with?

[And then, as a secondary question, as she holds up her free hand at about 5'7":]

Was Caroline with us? Yay tall, blond, vampire.

I'm not sure what happened to her. We were operating in groups at first, but after Gus and-- [ he stops himself, as if he both realizes he shouldn't say something and doesn't want to. his eyes drift back to daisy, and he turns away from them all, his hand brushing her shoulder as he ducks past her to click off the 80s tunes. ] Let's just say we kept our heads way, way down. And the rest, if they're out there, are doing the same.

[hacker]

We helped who we could. Buried who we couldn't.

[ daisy turns towards his hand, briefly, taking a sheepish sort of comfort in the shoulder touch. she shrugs off her vulnerability and shakes her head. ]

It doesn't matter how it's supposed to be. This is what we've got.

[Jane continues to look deeply disturbed and decides to ask about the long shot.]

Has anyone seen Thor?

[he feels a sharp stab of emotional pain re: gus but shoves it down bc NONE OF THIS IS REAL. IT'S NOT REAL. fuck this alternative timeline.]

[At first all there is is a record scratch, the look on Malina's face like she's been slapped or shot or something in between. She continues to stare at Peter like he had been speaking some kind of foreign language and the words he said are something that can't comprehend in her brain.

There was a very pointed reason why that wasn't the question she asked, and it was this very reason. Because no.

No.

If you think Malina was angry before? That was nothing. That was mild annoyance being vented because it gave her something to do. The look on her face after Peter says those words is true anger and she can't do this right now. She lets go of Alex's arm and looks away for a moment, and while she knows she should focus ...]

Fuck this.

Thor? [ peter looks confused, as if that's the ultimate non sequitur ] What's that guy got to do with this?

They're from the same plane, a place called Asgard. Generally, when one shows up, the other isn't far behind.
