chapter five ♔ it'll be a day like this one when the sky falls down

the blues - switchfoot
WHO || The Knights
WHAT || Failboat returns from the disaster in LA as the Knighthood goes on lockdown
WHERE || The castle, London
WHEN || Directly after this, Fall 2017
HOW || Actionspam
Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.
The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.
Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.
[ This is the social log for post-LA lockdown. Failboat must complete the top log before being allowed to tag outside of it. ]

You'd break way more than my nose if you took a swing at me now.
[cue me sobbing about how much they've both grown up]

[She chuckles softly at that, cherishing the few short moments where for just a second, things feel normal.
Her smile fades all too quickly as Rose stares at the flickering flames, her fingers raking back through her long, dark hair.]
You got time to take a walk? [Rose ever mindful of the ears that could be listening.] I believe I promised you a conversation when we got back.
[It's just that the conversation, is not the one that Faye might be expecting.]

[She finds a heavy blanket and smothers the fire out. She's destroying property, but not trying to burn the place down okay.]
Okay. Lead the way.

Keeping mindful of her surroundings and the presence of others (Spot 33, Listen 40 lmao), Rose walks with Faye towards the front doors of the Castle, hoping to put a little distance between them and the rest of the Knights.]
I'm guessing you saw Solace's announcement?

Once they're out in the fresh air - read, overcast and threatening to rain any moment because... fucking England. Rose appears to relax just a little, still glancing over her shoulder every few feet.]
And I'm guessing you also caught the part about them deciding we must be compromised and they're going to bench us...

Right now? We're on the outs because we're all very much loyal to Wynn and Hasmed can't have that if he's going to take over. [At least, that's how it looked to Rose.]

[I mean, that's one way to raise this, yes.]

So long as you don't try to blow this place up on your way out- or if you do, give me some warning.
no subject
[Heh. heheh. yeah.]
But I am planning to leave. [Allowing the humor to slip away as she lets Faye see how serious she is.] I can't just, sit on the sidelines when we're in for the fight of our lives and what Hasmed is planning.... It might slow the fight, but it's not going to win it.
no subject
Do you need any back up? [Rose hasn't mentioned that anyone else is going with her. Faye isn't about to just let her walk out in her own. Between Rose's crazy strength and Faye's magic, they might stand a chance. Maybe. Probably not. But the offer is there.]
no subject
Faye was the kind of person that if she was gonna fuck you over, would look you in the eyes, tell you she was going to and then do it. Given the last few years? Rose had learned to truly value that about her.]
Yes... but, not in the way you mean. [Offering up a half smile.] I won't be alone and by tomorrow, I imagine everyone will know who's gone.
[But Rose isn't going to name names, not because she doesn't trust Faye to keep the secret but because honestly?! Until they get to the airfield tonight, she's not even sure who is leaving.]
I need to know there's somebody still here that I can trust. [Holding up a hand before it can potentially be taken the wrong way.] I'm not going to ask you to spy for me, or anything like that, don't worry.
no subject
I'll try to butter up Hasmed to keep me in mind for whatever he's planning. I can't promise to be able to do anything about it, but I can try. [She can be pretty persuasive when she wants to be.]
no subject
[There's something grim in her expression and Rose wonders if maybe, this was how Faye felt when she approached her before Andres. Rose would be fighting this war, yes, but not in the way that those left behind would.
She comes to a stop, rounding so that she's standing directly in front of Faye.]
I'm not saying, don't fight. [Look how well Rose was responding to such a suggestion.] But... Keijen and the Mind Master? They make everything you've ever fought look like a joke. If you face them and live to tell the tale? It's only because they want you to. Hasmed and Solace think that if you throw enough manpower at these guys then you can win, and that's just.... it's never going to work.
[None of this sounds like staying here as a good thing, Rose recognizes that and tries to counter her own words.]
But it can buy us time to find a way to destroy them once and for all. Stop it from being as bad as it would be if there was nobody to stand against them at all... just... please.
[ Thinking about that very conversation before Andres.]
Be careful.
no subject
Okay. [A will save of 16 keeps her from getting too emotional, but this conversation feels more like goodbye than the one on Andres. Maybe because even if Rose wins, she may not be allowed to come back. There's a lot that could change, a lot that was already changing.] I'd ask you to do the same, but... [This is the definition of not careful basically.]
Keep my number handy, just in case.
no subject
Still. It's not lost on Rose what she's saying here, nor is the tone of this conversation.]
I will. And... I don't know if there's going to be a way for you to safely reach me. [She didn't even know where they were going yet.] The phones we got from the Knights are going to be a no go but... when I figure it out? I'll try and at least, check in.
no subject
You should be the only unknown number texting or calling, so it's not like I'll need to do any deep dive investigation.
