Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

I didn't say that. I just think there must be some mistake.

There's no mistake. This lightsaber belongs to Luke Skywalker.

[ she turns fully to ahsoka finally. ]

Maybe when the Jedi were destroyed, his father abandoned their rules.

Anakin never was one for following the rules to the letter.

[There's a sad fondness to her tone. But she shakes her head.]

He didn't survive the Jedi being destroyed. As far as I know, only I did.

Then I guess he broke that rule too.

[ but now she's puzzling over how this girl could have survived without knowing luke. as far as rey knew, only LUKE had survived the fall of the jedi. ]

[The thing is, she knows without thinking very hard who the mother must be. Anakin's feelings for Padme may have technically been a secret, but it wasn't like Anakin's ever been an exceptionally subtle person.]

How long have you been here?

Over a year.

And how long have you had that lightsaber?

A year, give or take.

[Ahsoka sighs, crossing her arms.]

Look, whatever that lightsaber's story is, you're clearly strong in the Force. You should know, everything the Knights are doing right now? I've seen it before. It's not going to end well.

What do you mean you've seen it before? [ beat. ] Are you talking about the Jedi? What happened to them?

They all died.

How?

That's a long story. [She curls her arms around herself.] And I'm pretty sure I don't know all of it. But it started when we went to war.

With the Empire?

There was no Empire yet. We sided with the Republic against the Separatists.

[ she has that glazed eye look of someone who's never studied history in her life except when she's rifling through its aftermath. ]

What did the Separatists do to incite the Jedi?

[Sorry, Rey.....]

They tried to leave the Republic. [She shakes her head.] We were told they stood against democracy and freedom. The Jedi had always been a peacekeeping force, not part of the army, but we thought we could end the conflict quickly and decisively. We thought we were the good guys.

... But you weren't.

[ no wonder people turned away from them. ]

You were weapons.

[She nods, hand going to one of the lightsabers on her sides.]

And the more entangled in politics we got, the more compromises we made. I didn't see how kriffed up it was until I was framed for murder and they expelled me on the High Chancellor's commands.

You and Anakin both?

[She shakes her head.] No, he's the one who found the real killer and proved my innocence.

They knew you were innocent, and you still left?

They would have taken me back, but it was too late. I'd seen what they really were like.

[She glances down.]

And leaving probably saved my life.

And you're leaving again? Just like that?

I'm not going to watch it happen again. [She shakes her head.] I'd stop it if I could. But no one will listen to me. Hasmed assured me this was nothing like what happened with the Jedi, but he's wrong.

I know we have to stop what's happening now. I just fear the path we're taking will lead to something even worse.
