Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there. Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[ she pauses for a moment, lowering her blade ] Why is that on your mind?

A togruta came to see me today. [ it becomes hard to keep her balance. her ankle twists at the wrong angle, and she slumps to a knee to catch herself. ] She said my lightsaber belonged to her Master, Anakin Skywalker.

Wait. How did you get her master's lightsaber?

It belonged to Luke. Her Master was Luke's father.

[ that's the only thing that makes sense, anyway, even if ahsoka resists the idea. ]

[ well. there's that.

she doesn't remember much about her own past, but she's spent enough time with her dad to learn more than a thing or two. ]

Vader. [ no, that's not quite right. he probably wasn't at the time, if he was teaching a jedi ] My--

[ she sucks in a breath. it still feels unreal, everything han has told her. ]

It was him. More or less. What happened to the Jedi. He did.

... Darth Vader.

[ she breathes it out. she's not personally familiar with the name, but secondhand. and she doesn't like the association, not at all. ]

She trained under Darth Vader. [ it makes sense, in a way. she had even told rey that she was the only one to escape. that would be why. he cared about her, anakin did. he must have let her go. ]

Han never mentioned anything about an apprentice. But he might not have known, considering he never knew Vader as Anakin Skywalker. Luke didn't either, not until the few last minutes of Anakin's life.

[ rey is distracted by— ]

Why do you do that? Why do you call him "Han"?

[ she knows why she does. he's not her father. but he is jaina's. her jealousy manifests in the question. ]

I guess-- [ she considers a second ] I know that he's my Dad. He's told me as much, and it's not that I don't... feel anything.

But I don't remember what it was like. It's not an instinct, seeing him that way. It's hard to explain. I guess we're a work in progress.

[ the fact that she's ren's sister means she should see something of him in there. as she speaks of this, she tries. he would have disappointed you. had he disappointed jaina? is she better without those memories? it's hard to imagine that as anything but the ravings of a monster, and yet, the disconnect is there. ]

He's a good man. He'll be a good father to you, if you can let him.

I don't doubt that he is. But -- it's clear how much I meant to him. We were... close. And I don't know if I can ever measure up to the person I was when he knew me.

I'm not afraid of him disappointing me. It's the other way around.

[ she doesn't even know what to do with that. she fumbles. of course she does. neither of them have It Figured Out, but Jaina is much closer than she is. at least, it feels that way.

or maybe that's just perception. maybe it's all perception. ]

Is it that hard to believe?

I don't see any way you could disappoint him. I don't see any way you could disappoint anyone.

Trust me. I'm far from perfect. But I don't think I would want to be.

There's a lot of wiggle room between "perfect" and "disappointment."

Maybe. [ she doesn't seem to want to talk about it much, tbh ] Either way. We were talking about Vader.

And he had an apprentice. But she called him 'Anakin.' Not Darth Vader.

Did you think all Sith Lords started out evil?

I haven't met many. [ defensive. she deflates a moment later, thinking of ... something. ] But no. I guess not.

He used to be a Jedi and then he was corrupted. All the power, none of the morals.

How? [ there's something raw about the way she asks. ] How does it happen? What happened to him?

I don't know. But I imagine Vane knows more about how it happens.

What does it mean for her, that Wynn is gone? Do you know?

I'm not certain. I wonder if Hasmed and Solace have given it a second thought.
