Hasmed's announcement does not brook any rebuttal: all Knights are recalled to the Castle, where they must remain until the Section Heads and Jack Chessing have spoken about the events in Los Angeles that have left the Knighthood without their usual leader.  

The entire Los Angeles area is now covered with a dark miasma that has interfered with any signals that might be sent out from phones, etc., leaving the whole world wondering what exactly is happening down there.  Final images showed horrendous monsters, a panic of citizens, looting and violence from humans and Shadowkind alike.  

Hasmed has warned of extra magical wards on the castle, and anyone arriving will immediately take notice of one very prominent one: above the entire roof of the excessively large building hovers a black and red sigil in the air, a pentagram in a circle surrounded by runes or words in an unknown language, stretching for miles.

[and Derek will happen to walk in, seeing Stiles training with the knife. He stood in the doorway a moment, a silent judging shadow. When he has seen enough, he will take a step in]

[The sound of his name makes him jump, because he didn't expect anyone to find him in here. It's not like he trains a ton these days.]

Do you want some help with that? [nodding to the knife]

[He's really not in a place to turn down any help.]

Yeah, sure- if you're offering. I don't really know what I'm doing.

[he'll just come closer, looking at the knife Stiles is working with]

which way are you the most comfortable holding it?

Uh... [He grips the handle and holds it out.]

Are there lots of ways to hold a knife?

Two, actually. One is better for slicing, and one for stabbing.

[and he will pick up another knife, holding it so that his thumb is up near the blade]

This is better for slashing. You keep your thumb pressed against the hilt and that gives the other side of the knife power to slide through things.

[and with an easy twirl of the blade in his palm, he flips it so that the blade it now closer to his pinky and his thumb is over the bottom of the hilt]

Where this way, your thumb pressure when you are stabbing down gives it more power to get in.

Stabbing feels like I'd have to stay up close. So maybe slashing and dashing is a better way to go.

Alright, then hold the knife like I showed you. Make sure you find that spot for your thumb that gives you the power and control without risking cutting it open.

[He takes the knife and tries to mimic the grip. Not sure what to roll for but the dice roll was a 19 so... success?]
