Sidelined from the mission that has been many of their lives for years, the group who had once stood against Keijen Blade has made a dangerous gambit - they've decided to leave the Knighthood, knowing they may never be allowed to return.  With them, have gone Sam and Dean Winchester, and Faith Lehane.  Their destination?  A distant monastery overlooking the village of Krozna, in the Ural Mountains.   This hidden location was home to many Shadowkind who did not wish to deal with the prejudice that their appearance might force upon them out in the world, particularly in Russia.  Wynn had apparently established a location here for Knights that broke the rules of the Knighthood so extremely to reflect upon their crimes, or for those whose powers made it impossible for them to live out in civilized society.

This monastery of misfits is run by a man named Mikhail Kalachnik, a willing exile who volunteered for the position, a man vouched for as trustworthy by both Jack Chessing and Finnick Odair.  It is here that the former Knights will set up a base of operations from which they intend to rescue Rafael Giovanni, research a way to stop Keijen Blade, and take him down once and for all, along with the evil Mind Master.  

But first, they must get to know the exiled Knights with whom they will be sharing this hideout...

I'll tell her when we get back. How did get there, do you think? Is there a nearby lake where I can imagine a very cold Lady of the Lake?

[uncease]

I don't think that's a thing, but I guess anything is possible. [He pauses for a moment, then reaches out to place his hand on her shoulder, giving it a small squeeze.]

It's really nice to see you again. I can't remember the last time I've smiled so much.

[graveflowers]

[ vi looks at him with her own smile, nudging him slightly with her hip. ]

You don't know how happy I am to have a familiar face here too. You're gonna find out that everything about this is insane. And naturally we just left the castle full of uninvolved people to temper that insanity.

[uncease]

Why don't we gather up the lamb and head back so we can make some hot cocoa and you can tell me all about it.

[graveflowers]

Are we gonna eat it-- Oh! You mean Lu. Right, duh. Glowbug, come on. You can see your new friends tomorrow, I promise.

[ begrudgingly and with many protestations, lucia returns to her mother, displeased, and vi tucks her into the front of the coat this time. off they trot, lu making unhappy noises all the while. ]

[uncease]

[He watches Vi retrieve her daughter with a sad sort of smile. He's having all the guilt ridden dad feelings.

He keeps conversation to a minimum as they walk, so Vi can get warm faster, but before they head inside, he slows and turns to her.]

Be careful around the other residents. Finnick is the only one who arrived after I did. Everyone else has been here for a pretty long time. Some of them are going to be a little jumpy.

I will be cautious, [ she promises. but, well. vi's idea of cautious lacks all caution. she put herself between a monster and an oncoming train, NEVER FORGET THAT WAS HER SAFE PLAN.

[uncease]

Good. And I'm always around, if you get in over your head.

[graveflowers]

You'll be my knight in shining armor? [ she grins. ] Deal.

[uncease]

[He grabs the door and holds it open for her.]

Now let's get you two warmed up.

[ vi scoots her butt inside and promptly lets lucia escape the coat, still looking cute in her poncho. ]

Tell me about our new friends, Mikhail is... distractingly handsome. When I heard his name I was expecting some hella Isaac Newton curl game but reality was better.

[uncease]

[He chuckles and heads inside, heading for the kitchen.]

Mikhail is... something of an enigma, even to me most days. But he's a good man. One of the best I've ever met. He's patient, and he keeps everyone around here calm as best he can.

[graveflowers]

He does have that chill vibe. Which seems to have rubbed off on you.

[ she nudges him with her elbow. not that david wasn't chill before but he's... chill now. it's hard to describe.

SUDDENLY SHE GASPS. ] Your birthday is coming up!

[ like, in a month, but w/e. it's the birthday they picked together. ]

[uncease]

[His head ducks and he laughs.]

I guess it is. [He definitely hasn't celebrated that in the last 4 years. Birthdays are for people not in exile.]

[graveflowers]

[ but cake tho ]

We're in our thirties now. I feel so accomplished.

[uncease]

That makes one of us. [He says with a small, self deprecating laugh and shake of his head.]

[graveflowers]

Hey, I never thought I'd make it this far. Thirty is a big deal.

[uncease]

I'm glad you made it. And proud of you- really. [He's genuine about it. It's just hard not to realize that wow he's spent more time in prison than he has doing anything with his life here.]

[graveflowers]

Hey. [ she stops, tugging his arm so he will stop too, before stretching up on her tiptoes to smoosh his cheeks between her hands. ]

You're doing your best. [ gonna drag his head down to smooch him on the forehead, keeping his face smooshed ] I'm proud of you.

[uncease]

[He reaches up with one hand and rests it against her as she squishes his face.]

[graveflowers]

Good. [ she releases the kraken, er, his face. ] Lucia, come back here.

[ she is not here for this boring face scrunching, wandering away like toddlers are prone to do. she waits with some impatience for her mom and charming to catch the fuck up like omg peasants wtf ]

[uncease]

[Watching Vi do the mom thing is honestly his favorite thing right now. It just warms his heart, which has been pretty damn cold being here for so long.]

I promise the hot cocoa will be worth the wait. [He gets them moving again.]

Somehow, I don't see little Lucia here adjusting to boring Krozna life so easily.

[graveflowers]

She has Shayla and their wild imaginations. One of our rooms will have to turn into a giant blanket fort, I'm sure, but as long as she has Shay and people to talk to, she's pretty chill.

[ she lowers her voice. ] This is terrible to say, but she's like a puppy. She just has to explore this place and decide it's her and then she'll be fine.

[uncease]

[He chuckles.] Animals, at least, I understand. After cocoa, we can let her explore. Within reason, at least. There are some people around here that she should probably stay away from.

[graveflowers]

There are people everywhere she should stay away from, [ vi counters, shrugging a little. ] You're more than welcome to cry, but this little girl isn't even afraid of Christos so.

[ lucia turns around. "Christos?" where. ] I was just talking about him, Glowbug, he's not here.

[ "Dovan?" ] No, love. [ "Zewo? her tiny mouth turns down in a frown and vi thinks she might start listing every old man in the castle that vi thrust her upon so they could tell her stories of her father, successfully or not. "Daisy?" ]

No, sweetie, Daisy had to stay to take care of Lan, you know that. [ lucia looks like she wants to cry WHERE ARE ALL HER FRIENDS AND HER HORSE FRIEND'S FRIENDS. ]
