The acting Heads of the Knighthood - Hasmed and Solace - have made a decision that is not easy for many.  Given the terrible state of everything happening in America, they've decided to relocate operations entirely to the States, and have secured a facility near Las Vegas.  It is certainly possible, with the grim missions that lie before them, that many, or all, of the Knights may never return.  Reactions to the announcement are certain to be strong, but it's time to choose what they will bring with them to their new life - and for some, to decide if it's a journey they can bring themselves to take.

[You may have thought Gold forgot about this, but he did not. He tracks down Rey at some point midway through everyone's packing and places a box in front of her.]

That was not easy to obtain, dearie.

[You owe him, you treasonous hussy.]

You found it.

[ Rey's eyes are wide.

She doesn't have much to pack. She's mostly been watching other people, and occasionally helping out with equipment packing for the wings for what they can actually manage to take. She reaches for the box slowly, hesitant, almost afraid.

Jaina's warning is close at hand. But she needs this. Wynn would want her to have it. Her fingers settle on the edge of the box, smoothing against the corners with a sort of reverence. She knows what this is worth because she knows what Val'drin wanted for it. ]

Technically, I bought it. And it did not come cheap.

[Gold's used to being the one brokering the shitty deals. Being on the other side is bullshit and he is not fond of it, but he did what was asked, and it put him over Val'drin just a bit. Kind of.

He leans on his cane a bit.]

As generous as my offering is, I didn't do this out of the goodness of my heart, Ms. Rey. I'd like to think you'll return the favor someday.

[ Rey shakes her head. ]

I don't have anything I can give you.

[ She knows better now, to specify. To not risk offering up the lightsaber. ]

We'll call it a favor owed. [Gold's more the type to take favors more than he'll take actual physical offerings, anyway. Which is a bit odd for a pawnbroker, but it's probably something from all those memories he doesn't have that everyone keeps telling him about.]

[ Wow that makes it sound super sketchy. She should set boundaries for the favor. But here is the holocron in front of her, basically. And her last chance to get it.

Rey doesn't hesitate. ]

Will you use it?

You can't use it yourself?

Sir Cabot told me a rod like this is only as powerful as the spellcaster using it.

[ Rey looks pointedly at Gold. ]

What I have isn't magic. You're stronger than I am.

And yet I never agreed to do more than what I said. There are plenty of magic users here- one of them might feel inclined to get involved with this.

[He taps the box.] No one asks for something like this unless they want to get past something. I don't know what that might be, but I do know that I need to keep my head down and plead ignorance of whatever it is you're up to.

[forcevisions]

I have one chance at this. [ A beat. ] ... Sir. [ As if she recalls that she's supposed to respect him or something. ] If I don't have someone who can use it properly, the rod is nothing to me. [ She sounds frustrated, at the end of her rope — and she is. They're about to leave that holocron behind. ] ... Do you at least know someone who might not have your reservations? All I need is a name.

Faye Chamberlain. [There's literally no question. Faye gets herself into shit all the time, and while he shouldn't encourage it... Well, she can say no, if she damn well wants to. Maybe she wants to get into a little trouble on their way out the door or whatever the hell this is. He doesn't know. Rey could be trying to rob a bloody bank.] She rarely has reservations about anything.

[ She closes the box back up and scoops it into her arms. ]

I owe you one.

[ And she feels better about that, knowing he won't just blank check help her do this. It's not like he's an amoral monster who she'd never want to owe a favor 🙃 ]
