The acting Heads of the Knighthood - Hasmed and Solace - have made a decision that is not easy for many.  Given the terrible state of everything happening in America, they've decided to relocate operations entirely to the States, and have secured a facility near Las Vegas.  It is certainly possible, with the grim missions that lie before them, that many, or all, of the Knights may never return.  Reactions to the announcement are certain to be strong, but it's time to choose what they will bring with them to their new life - and for some, to decide if it's a journey they can bring themselves to take.

[It's not that he doesn't like it. Honestly, it's kind of comforting to know there's someone on their side that isn't here.

That said, there's too many factors at work here.]

Unfortunately, that's not my call.

[He's the newcomer to this group. And he knows that not everyone else will want to jump into another organization with a bunch of people they don't know when it came to this. They couldn't even trust the people they'd been with for years. There was also the matter of getting outside people involved and, therefore, hurt.]

I'll mention it to Jack, but I think we're going to have to fly solo on this. There's too many variables to contend with already that I don't want to subject anyone else to.

[You know, considering there are a couple of fiends basically demanding to be involved, too.]

[ It's probably for the best, Sam. She's an idealist who isn't vetting this past Coulson and May's vigorous pragmatism. She wants to believe that SHIELD is just Good because it's SHIELD and they've been good to her. That's not necessarily the reality. ]

I figured, but ... Well, I had to try. I just wish I'd been fast enough to get Jack in to brief Coulson.

[ Hasmed and Solace can't be trusted to do a half decent job on all the failboat intel. They need failboat for that.

But that's all tactics. It's probably not the warm saccharine wistfulness that this exchange calls for, but Skye isn't especially good at being that kind of person. She doesn't have experience letting herself miss people. ]

Maybe Jack will want to exchange info with him at some point. It can't hurt to have allies, even if we aren't in the same place at the same time.

[It might take more than just them. It might take more than all of them put together.

It was hard to say.

Sam wishes he could stop missing people. That would make his life a hell of a lot easier.]

Especially now that we can't contact the knights.

You can't contact the Knights' leadership. There's no one else you trust who stuck around?

[ She'd volunteer, but she has a feeling she's gonna be persona non grata with plenty of people right about now. ]

I don't have a whole lot of people I can trust period. Not after what happened with those other members of our team.

[Not with Hell getting their fingers into everything.]

That's a big part of the reason that this...means a lot to me.

[He's trusting you, Skye. That's a big fucking deal right now.]

Well, I'm pretty sure you are, like, the one person who's trying to trust me, so.

[ She tries to play it off like a joke but

she can't finish it. It's there, out in the world. ]

... Don't die out there, okay?

Yeah, you too.

[He's not planning on it, but when does anyone?]

I'll catch you later.

Yeah.

[ She hangs up and, for a while, just lays there in the bed with the phone on her chest. Then, slowly, she picks it up and punches in the number for her SHIELD phone to send to him. There. Handled. She's done everything she can to keep him alive a little bit longer tonight. ]
