The acting Heads of the Knighthood - Hasmed and Solace - have made a decision that is not easy for many.  Given the terrible state of everything happening in America, they've decided to relocate operations entirely to the States, and have secured a facility near Las Vegas.  It is certainly possible, with the grim missions that lie before them, that many, or all, of the Knights may never return.  Reactions to the announcement are certain to be strong, but it's time to choose what they will bring with them to their new life - and for some, to decide if it's a journey they can bring themselves to take.

[Maybe something more sinister? That just screamed Rogerrik. Or should he say, Kerrigor as his brother had insisted on being called in those last moments before... before...

He shakes his head to clear that train of thought, focusing once more on the conversation.]

So, wait, you've heard of this before?

[valdrin]

It happens literally all the time. To a great number of people who usually live here, actually.

[torrigan]

[He literally... doesn't even know what to say to that. It's just one of those things you don't expect to hear every day. Or ever.

He looks around a moment for a place to sit, finds nothing and finally rests his hands on his knees, breathing deeply in through his nose and out through his mouth. He is having a bit of a hard time not feeling like he is going to fly apart into a million confused, angry and scared pieces. With a really good for him will save of 18 he is finally able to pull himself together enough to ask the next logical question-]

What do I do now?

val'drin ... awkwardly pats him from a distance for a second until he gets his shit together ] Well. That depends on quite a few things. You might consider it... a clean slate, in certain ways. You get a chance to make a new life for yourself.

[torrigan]

[How can he think of starting a new life when so much of his old one is calling for vengeance? How can he move on? Does he even have a choice in the matter? If this man was right, and this was a totally different world, then he had no chance of finding his brother, there was no possibility of avenging his family.

It doesn't sit right with him, it probably never would, but until he can come to terms with the fact that he may never make it back to his home, he needed to figure out his next steps. Finding a place to stay, finding work, getting as much information about this world as he could, those things needed to be his focus for now. Val'drin had said that many of the people who lived in the castle had had the same thing happen to them. Perhaps this was some kind of blessing that had been granted to him, to bring him to this specific place where this was apparently a more common happening.]

You mentioned that others in this castle had been through the same thing, yes? Did that happen to you as well? Is it common for others like myself to... to end up here?

Well, given how little I know about you, "like myself" is difficult to say. But yes, and yes. It's hardly pleasant, but also hardly the end of the world, although I'm sure it feels that way to you now. There are people here to help with this sort of thing. We're one of them, actually.

[torrigan]

[he makes a fair enough point at that.]

Who are you then?

[valdrin]

Val'drin Cabot, at your service. A Knight of the Silver Dragon. You've stumbled across our base of operations, as it were.

[torrigan]

[Well, that was fortunate for him, at least.]

You're part of a Knighthood? [This was at least something he could perhaps be useful doing?] That's at least something I'm familiar with.

[valdrin]

Something of an unusual Knighthood, but the basic principles, I imagine, are somewhat familiar.

[torrigan]

So, this Knighthood. What exactly do you do in order to help someone like me? Do you offer some kind of work that can be traded for food and shelter, perhaps? [He's a survivor, after all, and gathering the tools necessary to survive is essential. Maybe he could work here for a bit, learn something of this world and see just how much truth there was to Val'drin's words.]

[valdrin]

Food, shelter, and money ostensibly. It's a job. A rather dangerous one, but you look like a strapping enough fellow.

[torrigan]

[He doesn't care about the money aspect, though that might be a big enough draw for most.]

Any positions open at present?

[valdrin]

Well. We're sort of facing a problem with a, er. Evil god on the rise, at the moment. So I imagine we could use all the help we can get.

[torrigan]

[That's...not exactly what he is expecting to hear, but it doesn't really seem to faze him much?? They don't exactly have gods where he comes from, at least that he had known or heard about, so it's not really that frightening of a prospect to him.

He extends his hand to Val'drin, his grip firm as he gives a slight nod.] Then consider me some help, if you'll have me.

[There's a small pause before he says, almost as an afterthought-] Does the name Sehanine mean anything to you? Or the Karthur Institute?

[Nat 20 Wisdom check to finally fucking remember anything other than Faith's name.]

[ he returns the (much more manly) handshake with one of his own and then looks very surprised by that ] Well. Yes. You're standing in the Karthur Institute.
