War of Hearts - Russell Taylor
WHO ||Dean, Rose, Sam, Alainn [closed]
WHAT || Dean & Rose spontaneously tie the knot
WHERE || The French Quarter 24/7 Wedding Chapel, New Orleans
WHEN || A couple weeks post LA, after the Rafael rescue (2017)
HOW || Actionspam (single thread)
[ No one probably ever thought this day would come, probably least of all the bride and groom.
But a surprise proposal (of sorts) from Rose has led them both here, as the clock clicks close to midnight, to one of the only 24/7 wedding chapels there is, conveniently located right here in New Orleans, where they happened to make the decision. Neither one of them seems to want a big wedding, so much as they just want to get married already, although everyone is a little concerned that Dean is going to develop cold feet as the time draws nearer. With a nat 20 will save though, he's actually eerily calm about the whole thing as Sam drives him to the place and they fill out the paperwork, while Alainn gets Rose ready in a nearby room. Dean takes a moment to slip the guy running the place some cash money under the table not to put their name up on the public registry that they keep on their website, to at least not flagrantly advertise their location. By the time anyone traces them here from the actual signing of documents, they should be long gone. Once all that's done, Dean and Sam have a few moments alone while they go to process everything, and he steps into the chapel room, walking slowly down the aisle with his hands shoved in the pockets of the suit that Alainn picked up for him and Sam talked him into actually wearing, studying the kooky decor with a pensive look on his face. ]

Dean's words are the first to really pierce her tumble of thoughts and yet all she can offer him is a lift of her shoulder as she meets his gaze. ]
Hell if I know.
[ Blessedly, it does seem to break some of the tension in the room and in doing so? The soft light that shines from within immediately settles and fades away as she acknowledges the other two staring at her. ]
I was sorta hoping I was imagining it.

He gives himself a moment before he shakes his head.]
Unless we're having a group hallucination, then no, you're not.
[At least Dean doesn't seem too concerned about it.]

It takes him a moment, because that's not a common term. He has to search his memory, because in fact, the only time he's come across it has been in myths (thanks for that Arcane Lore Nat20, RNG) and if you'd asked him about it before right now, he'd have told you you read too much Twilight.
But here Dean is, using something like that like it's NBD and it's almost comical how swiftly Bobby's head swivels from between Rose to Dean and back to Rose again. ]
Wait, dhampir?!

Rose is just Rose. The end.
Sam sort of shrugs his shoulders at Dean's question.]
I don't know what else it could have been but that was my guess too, yeah.

I would have mentioned it before we got married. [ I mean. Probably. They aren't good at talking sometimes. They just exist. ]
What so I'm holy now? [ She sure does. Make that sound like a dirty word. ]
no subject
Holy.... from a vampire. Half-vampire, sorry. [ He glances to Rose. ] 'Holy' and 'vampire' aren't supposed to mix. At all. Isn't that like... I don't know, dunking an ice cream cone in lava or something?

I feel like Hell just gatecrashed our wedding to threaten us.
[ I mean. Put into that perspective she's not really sure she could tell him whether she feels alright or not. ]
You don't think... [ She doesn't assume angelic assistance because frankly, they've never bothered to be useful where they're concerned before so why start now? ] Lissa was a cleric.
[ It seems a little late to be showing any changes as a result of her death but it's the only thing she can come up with that doesn't involve higher powers stepping in and she really doesn't think she's done anything to warrant their attention. ]
no subject
[She'd bring that up, right?
He furrows his brows at her line of thinking, though.]
Wait, the girl that died a while back? What would she have to do with anything?

[ Though she seems rather ambivalent to it and it's just as likely she wouldn't notice either way.
Rose at least has the sense to look guilty about Sam's question, surprise quickly giving way to that emotion and she opens her mouth, wanting to give him an answer but not sure where to even begin.
Thank God for Dean... though she's about to regret those words. ]
Of? [ Her face pales, shoulders tense and her grip on his hand tightens and you'd swear she'd rather he'd asked any other question. Instead she looks back to Sam, needing to ease into this one and giving him at least something so he's not eternally in the dark. ]
Because the Castle attack wasn't the first time I died. [ At least Sam had been told that much. ] There was an accident, before I ever came through the veil. A car wreck. Lissa brought me back but... It was kind of complicated.
[ It wouldn't suffice as an explanation and a part of her wanted nothing more than to go into it in excruciating detail now, if only so she didn't have to answer Dean. ]
God. [ Stealing a look at him as she allows that word to hang there. ] Yes. That God.

But now he just groans and tips his head back towards the ceiling and stares upwards at nothing in general for a moment as he processes all this. ]
So, the Big Guy upstairs, huh?
[ Since that seemed to be what she was hinting at. Still, there was something else standing out to him here, too. ]
Why are we now talking about dyin' in the plural is what I want to know. When did this become a thing? Can we maybe look to stop makin' it a thing?
no subject
[It's not like any of them die on purpose. Their lives are just hard.
He glances back over at Rose, looking between her and Dean as he speaks.]
Is that what that whole shadowkissed thing was about?
[After all, she was having him look up things about complications from a resurrection. Seems to fit perfectly, honestly.
He nat 20'd that search, okay. He remembers.
He still looks fucking confused though. On multiple levels.]
You were rezzed the second time after Lissa had already died, right? Seems like something the big guy downstairs would have done his best to wipe clean given the opportunity.
[Can something like that even work that way? He has no fucking idea.]

[Is it too much to want this to be from some other power that might not want to screw them over six ways til sunday?]
Maybe it doesn't matter where it came from. [He looks at Rose.] You can do whatever you want with it. It's yours now, so who cares who gave it to you.
[#projection much?]

[ Her words a little too clipped, body too tense for her to pass it off as the casual thing she usually does. Rose might do a great job at acting like her deaths don't bother her at all and yet... she also chooses to sit as far from an open flame as she can manage and it's not just Dean's dreams that keep her up at night.
Her tension only seems to escalate at Sam's words and Dean's poor hand as her grip on it tightens, as if that connection to him is literally the only thing keeping her sufficiently anchored right now.]
Mine? [ Her features darken, a huff of air escaping as she shakes her head. ] Either I came back wrong or somebody did this to me. How does that not matter?
no subject
[ Bobby looks perplexed. But also very intrigued. ]
So you've never done that before? Lit up like a lightning bug?

[He lets the topic drop because he wasn't saying they shouldn't figure it out. He just doesn't want her to turn it around on herself or burden herself with more rage than they're already dealing with.
But he gets it.]
Whatever it is, whoever's behind it, we'll deal with it.

Her gaze flickers to Sam at his words and it's a reminder that together no longer means just the two of them. A small nod of acknowledgment, of gratitude for how quickly he throws his support behind her. ]
That was the first time. [ Trying to alleviate some of her own tension by answering Bobby's question. ]
Dhampir aren't magical. We're fighters. We shouldn't be able to do things like that.
[ But then Rose wasn't normal even by Dhampir standards. ]
It's gotta be the Shadowkissed thing.

[ Bobby jerks a thumb in Alainn's direction when she speaks from behind him and she'd been so quiet this whole time, he'd halfway expected she'd fallen asleep back there. Not that he objected to someone who didn't run their mouth all the time - it was a refreshing change, actually.
But he's still studying Rose with curiosity, thinking all this over. ]
...Why do I get the feeling that you kissin' shadows is very different from what the rest of us are busy being?
[ Also being shadow-anything doesn't sound like something that would holy light in his book, but what does he know? The rules in this world are completely different from the one he'd come from - he's still trying to make sense of it most days. ]
no subject
It's not like being Shadowkind. [Grimacing as if to foreshadow the turn this conversation will take.] Resurrection isn't supposed to be possible where I came from.
[ There's a renewed tension that hums through her body and it might be clear now, why she's never broached this subject with Sam. It's clearly not one she discusses easily and yet apparently with everything that's happened tonight? Gone are the days of saying nothing. ]
Lissa was... different. [ Her eyes go out of focus as she's pulled into a memory, the sensation of it visibly rolling through her body like a crawling discomfort. ] I don't remember much. Just... the accident.
[ Gasoline. Twisted metal. Heat. Excruciating pain. ]
When I got here I knew I was Shadowkissed I just, didn't know what that meant. I could sense Vampires. See Ghosts. Generally... do things normal people aren't supposed to be able do. I didn't think much of it until Lissa showed up this side of the veil and I started hearing... a voice in my head.
[ She lifts her gaze now, brown eyes shifting from Bobby to Sam and it's almost as if she's challenging them to look at her like she's crazy. ]
Whatever happened, when she brought me back it wasn't... all the way I guess. She tied me to her instead. I could, hear her thoughts, see what she saw... feel what she felt. [ There's another flicker of her gaze, this time to Sam because. He's smart. He'll realize what all of that means.]
When she died... [ Her gaze flickers towards Dean and there's something close to an unspoken apology in her eyes before she looks away. ] It was like that tie had been cut... but then the castle was attacked and we all know how that ended.
[ Except Bobby... but do you really want to make them say it Bobby, do you. ]
The deal was to bring me back. It's not like you would have specified which version of me.
[ And it probably says a lot that for as improbable as all this sounds? It's still more believable to Rose than a God deciding to do this to her. ]
