The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.

Plus, he intended to use every excuse in the book to not follow through on his end if we accepted his initial offer.

[Riddick lets out a rumbling grumble, his hands clenching slightly.</small] Yeah, I just bet he did. Good thing we didn't buy his bullshit.

He seemed pretty transparent, either way. Not a lot of manners on that guy.

We're not out of the woods with him yet. He'll be trouble down the line.

Hmm, might be kinda fun being on the mission to go back and make sure he stays in line.

I can make sure Wynn knows you're interested.

'Preciate it. So, when do you think another mission's gonna come up?

Back there, or just in general?

Both. I'm hoping we don't have to go back there too soon, but I liked being out in the field. I don't do well, staying in one spot for too long.

Yeah, well the good news is the better you do out there, the more likely Wynn is to keep you busy. And you did good.

[Riddick nods at Fred's words in appreciation.] Thanks. So, are there always this many new Squires coming and going through here?

Actually, I think it's been a pretty busy year so far. Wonder why.

I keep hearing rumors about whatever this Veil thing is that brings people like me around here. Jack kinda explained it to me, and Wynn, but does that normally have an effect on the amount of recruits this place picks up?

[telekinect]

Sometimes it acts up more than others. But this latest trend is something we've never seen before.

Well, whatever is causing it to act up, I'm pretty grateful it's brought me here. I'm not gonna argue with what it's doing.

[telekinection]

[That earns a warm smile from Tia, who exchange glances with Fred.]

We're glad it did too. At least someone out there seems to know what they're doing.

[His eyes stray out along the dance floor as he absorbs the compliment. It was rare that he got one that wasn't accompanied by sarcasm and detriments to his character and talents. Not that his character hadn't been something to scorn before in the eyes of most, but he wasn't up for nit-picking.]

There does seem to be a lot of people out there doing this line of work that don't seem particularly...ready for it. [His thoughts stray to Vanille and how quickly she had fled the mission. And to Myri, for a brief moment.]

That's why there's a squiring period to begin with. Takes some of the pressure of commitment off, but makes people really think about whether this life's gonna work for 'em.

It doesn't mesh with everybody.

I wouldn't wanna be one of those people it didn't work for. That'd be one helluva boring life.
