It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Saturday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

With Dovan and Luthir gone on missions, a surly looking Sir Lanston stands waiting for you all, decked out in his elaborate full plate, though he has no helm on. He leans on an incredibly dangerous looking sword, as Fred offers a much more friendly greeting to the gathered, motioning them all over.

[She stops and looks at him blankly.] At you?

Didn't seem to work very well for you the last time. Why do you think that is?

Uhhh... cause I didn't hit hard enough to cut through full plate?

Even full armor has its weak points, girl. It's a matter of learning where they are.

Now what would you think the best place to start lookin' is?

[She leans her sword on her shoulder and looks him over, trying to think about what parts of the armor would be less solid.] The bendy parts?

No, child.

[He lifts his arm, and slams a hand there. ] Where the arms meet the shoulder. [ He slaps a hand against his neck ] Where the helm meets the breastplate.

You need to find the gaps.

[She nods, looking determined, then dashes in speedily to try to stab him again, this time aiming for the gap between the arm and the shoulder (atk 13). She's clearly trying. The blow goes somewhat nearer to the place she's aiming, but she's not good enough to really hit it. (I ASSUME?)]

[ Nope. Also he shifts away from her on purpose, because like hell he's gonna make this easy on her. ]

Again!

[She's WAY sloppy this time (atk 9), and when she pulls back, she has an annoyed little pout.] Shoot!

Just because you can dance that fast doesn't mean you shouldn't learn to ground yourself.

[She stops, tilting her head to the side and looking puzzled.] I'm on the ground.

Maybe your feet are, but your body's got no idea where it is.

Root yourself when you go in for the attack.

Okay, okay, rooting, right. [She takes a moment to get in touch with her inner ground. Then she looks up, full of determination, and dances in for another attack.

It doesn't go very well (atk 9).

She looks pretty frustrated when she backs away again.]

Your whole body, not just your feet, or you're gonna wind up tripping over yourself.

Right, right! I'm against tripping. Okay, let me try again. [She's getting more and more frustrated, so maybe that's why this time she really... does trip (atk 9). She keeps her balance (balance check 21), but she definitely misses.]

[ That is probably because Lan refuses to make this easy on her 8| He is a dick like that. Once more, the rapier clangs against the metal of his breastplate and he shakes his head ]

Maybe we should stick you with a dummy first.

No! I've been training like, my entire life! [She gives him a piteous look.] I mean, the weapon's new, but I should be able to do this!

Whoever trained you didn't prepare you for fighting armored foes.

My dad doesn't like armor any more than me. [She shrugs, glancing away.] Mostly we just worked on me slowing down to normal people speed.

At least your father taught you rightly. It's dishonorable to fight a man with power that outstrips him so much.

Right. That. [Though it's more the whole... being able to actually understand people when they talk and not die of boredom when she has to stay still for over a minute. Andie's small and girly enough that without her power that outstrips people so much, she's pretty unimpressive.]

You'd do well to get an armored dummy and practice finding its weak points.

Yeah, yeah. Guess I'd better. [She sounds sulky about it, though not unwilling.]

Next time, perhaps, you'll be able to hit me.

[Oh, the sulky look's gone in a flash, replaced by a confident grin.]
