The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Something like that. [ There's a mild evasiveness in his response, but he moves on before she can press the subject. ]

I'm not your boss, more like an adviser. They don't make a brochure with all the ins and outs of how we do things around here. Instead, you get me.

Does that mean I can ask you all kinds of questions, whenever I want? Or are you gonna go ahead and just tell me everything I should know and I can take notes?

[She's more sincere now, and much more curious. She wants to get off to a good start here, and knows that all the information she can get is a good way to do that.]

So is all this everything you hoped it'd be as a kid? [Since clearly, it's one of those lifetime dream kind of stories. She can kind of relate.]

How long have you been here?

[She keeps the conversation rolling, even if it's a boring question, it's information she can use later. The more experienced knights are going to have different insight than the people who haven't been around all that long, so she wants to hear things from both sides of the table.]

Someone said earlier parties like this happen almost every month now. I dunno if I'd ever get used to things like this. It's way too formal for me.

[She smiles, understanding that sentiment.]

It's only disappointing when reality kicks in and you realize you can't save everyone.

As a squire, only about a month. I got here a few weeks before that, and just kicked around until the ceremony. If you mean how long I've been here on Earth... a few months beyond that. [Shrug.] I'm a Shadowkind.

Seems like they do. You can miss out on them if you want, or just show up for a moment, whatever. I don't think anyone will hold you accountable for them.

Sounds like experience talking.

[ He toys with one of the little favors on the table, rolling it this way and that. ]

You do this kind of thing before?

[Her cheeks puff up a little before she lets out a breath of air, and her fingers drum at the side of the table.]

Hate to break it to you, but I'm curious about almost everything. How about we start with something simple and tackle weapons. When do I get 'em?

[harvelle]

Not this exactly, but something kinda close. [She glances over at what he's fiddling with instead of at him directly.]

All I knew is that from all the way back when I was in pigtails, I wanted to protect as many people as I could from the things out there that would hurt them, and that normal people couldn't fight.

Now those, we aren't short on. If you make your way upstairs, there's a training room, which houses the armory. Same keycard they gave you to get into the Round Table room'll open the doors.

We're not short on much of anything, except maybe rocket launchers.

[nepotism]

You and me both. Sort of runs in the family, for me.

But my Dad walked out of it, and wasn't exactly thrilled that I wanted nothing more than to run straight there.

[harvelle]

[She lets out a relieved breath at hearing that.]

At least it gives me something steady to look forward to, right? [Wait, there's probably more that she could say here.]

Thanks for showing up for me. Or my party, anyway.

[harvelle]

[Hnnn dads. She nods in understanding, knowing that her dad probably wouldn't have been all too excited about her decision to follow in his footsteps.]

Parents are all kinds of good at making us feel like crap for wanting to be just like them. It's supposed to be a compliment and they see it as ruining our potential, or some BS like it.

[harvelle]

Guess I'll be able to manage just fine without one. [She grins, feeling much more at ease and in her element now.]

Think we can go up and take a look at them now?

[nepotistic]

[ Her words seem to render him a little more solemn, and he rolls the favor to a halt ]

I don't know if he ever got that it's more than just some kind of duty we were born into. He felt stuck with it, and he couldn't even see what an honor it was anymore.

Not a problem. I had... well, just short of a screaming argument with the Knight who brought me here, when he brought me. It might be why he's not my mentor, actually. Anyway we made up, and I said if he ever gets a band here that plays faster music, I'm going to ask Wynn to dance.

[Scout grins and shakes her head.] So I have to check every time.

Ready to skip out on your party already?

This isn't my kind of party. And what kind of girl would rather stay here than go look at an arsenal?

[harvelle]

You can see it. That's all that matters. [She knows that's a bunch of bullshit and what her mother thinks counts for a lot. But saying what she did is easy, and she needs easy right about now.]

[necessaryevil]

... Most of them? Though not around here, I suppose. [ He gets to his feet, bent over to finish off the last few drops of his beer as he pulls himself away, before leaving the glass on the table. ] C'mon.

I like to think so. Plus, I figure some day he'll get over it.

He's attempting to eat refreshments. It'd work a lot better without the mask. But he keeps trying!

[Morgan's quietly making his way to his usual spot when suddenly GIRL SITTING IN HIS SPOT WHAT DO.

He comes to a halt, staring in surprise for what's probably a fraction of a second too long.]

[His brow furrows as he looks down at his glass of water. Yes, water. He's the biggest partyer of all the big partyers.]

I didn't know anyone would be sitting here.

[He chose not to get dressed up either. Instead he's just standing there in his usual garb: black everything (NICE) black everything, including the coat.

He's also... not really sure of what to do at this point sooo. Yep, he's frozen in place.]
