after-party ♔ we clap not for you but for your kind

♬ Jeux d'eau - Ravel
WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (new mission groups have not left yet!)ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || June 1st, 2012, 9:00PM
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam
The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.
Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.
Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

Yeah, no. Jo's not doing it. She had played around with a few black dresses upstairs and none of them made her feel comfortable or like herself, so she rushed to find her personal belongings and grab some of those. So when Jo shows up to the party, it's in jeans and a black tank top. Boots top the outfit off and make her look oh-so dainty and feminine.
She lingers against a wall for a short amount of time, casually watching the crowd and trying to figure out who she'd get along with best. If you don't catch her there, she spends her night moving around the room and talking to whoever's willing to listen. She's definitely not a social butterfly, but it's easy enough to fake when running on an ego high thanks to getting a ceremony and party all about her and only her.
At one point later in the night, however, she gets tired of being outgoing and finds a nice dark corner to retreat and hide in. She's easiest to stalk and corner there, although she'll be a bit snappier to anyone who dares to disturb her quiet reflection time. Somewhere along the way she's picked up a bottle of beer and she enjoys slowly nursing it in her own personal space.
Yep, drinking beer and wearing jeans to a black tie party. She's the classiest lady of them all.]

He's all sharply dressed in a suit and tie, the latter of which he's in the process of tugging loose as he plops down at the table she's sitting at, sprawling his legs out in front of him. ]
These things can be a real workout.

Jo blinks up at him, taking a long drink. She doesn't say anything at first, just laughs and gives a shrug. Her throat is so sore and tired from
talking to people all night get your mind out of the gutter, you sick freak.
But she realizes that she's eventually going to need to actually say something to him, so she sets her beer aside and sits up a little.]
You don't seem like someone that minds that too much.

[ He glances over at her finally, eyes flicking up and down her once, very briefly, without lingering. ] I know Wynn said your name at the ceremony, but I've got an awful memory for 'em.

I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with what you find at dockside bars. [Her head tips to the side and she lets out a laugh. He seems decent enough to be able to joke around. And if she offends him, then well...he just needs to man up.]

It's Jo. Guess now would be a real great time to get to introducing yourself.

So, Junior, how long've you been hanging around this place?

Re: ota;
[anyway she admired the new squire's attitude at the ceremony. Scout wishes she had that kind of brazen confidence-without-callousness, and is very glad she wasn't the only new squire at her ceremony, so manages to approach Jo while she's moving around the room.]
[Scout's dressed in neutral tans and offwhites in layers and a divided skirt and a gauzy scarf as a sash, with an open duster over all of it. A little unorthodox, but nothing jarring. She holds a wine glass with grape juice low, around waist level and close to her body.]
I like your style.

She's not used to talking to other women, much less getting compliments from them. So she gets a bit awkward and passes her beer back and forth between her hands, and eventually takes a drink, nodding.]
Don't really hear that all that much.
[All that confidence from earlier is now gone, replaced with just not knowing how to respond.]

You seemed comfortable. I was nervous as anything when I was squired, though - [a quick glance around to see if either Faye or Deadpool are nearby] - it was with two much more colorful personalities than me.
[She smiles and decides against a joking demand for Jo to give up her secret, but holds her free hand out.]
I'm Tallisibeth. When I'm not in trouble, people call me Scout.
no subject
She glances down at Scout's hand before taking hold of it and giving it a hearty shake.]
Think I'll stick with Scout, then. And in case you didn't catch it, I'm Jo. Joanna Beth when I'm in trouble, but only my mom gets away with calling me it. Anyone else tries, they get a fist to the face.

[Her hand has harsh-textured calluses on it, the kind that snag on fabric. She squeezes a little, not trying to crush, and when Jo releases it she hooks that hand by the thumb into her sash.]
Smarter than me. I told Wynn my whole name, so of course that was how he announced me... Anyway, welcome to the Knights.

[She keeps the conversation rolling, even if it's a boring question, it's information she can use later. The more experienced knights are going to have different insight than the people who haven't been around all that long, so she wants to hear things from both sides of the table.]
Someone said earlier parties like this happen almost every month now. I dunno if I'd ever get used to things like this. It's way too formal for me.
no subject
Seems like they do. You can miss out on them if you want, or just show up for a moment, whatever. I don't think anyone will hold you accountable for them.
no subject
At least it gives me something steady to look forward to, right? [Wait, there's probably more that she could say here.]
Thanks for showing up for me. Or my party, anyway.
no subject
[Scout grins and shakes her head.] So I have to check every time.

He comes to a halt, staring in surprise for what's probably a fraction of a second too long.]
Sorry, I...
[His brow furrows as he looks down at his glass of water. Yes, water. He's the biggest partyer of all the big partyers.]
I didn't know anyone would be sitting here.
[He chose not to get dressed up either. Instead he's just standing there in his usual garb: black everything (NICE) black everything, including the coat.
He's also... not really sure of what to do at this point sooo. Yep, he's frozen in place.]
no subject
Lucky for you, there's a whole lot of other chairs. Look at that, there's one right here.
[She pulls out the one next to her and nods down toward it.]
Go on, give it a try.
no subject
[He tries to grin, the expression coming off a bit more pained than he intended. He sits in the chair and puts his glass down on the table before offering Jo his hand.]
Morgan.
no subject
I suppose congratulations are in order. [She says, looking at the girl with a lazy smirk.]
no subject
How many of these things have you been to now? It's got to get old after a while.
no subject
[because it was a party for her and not... not her]
I'm Faye.
