[ This log covers any non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in New Orleans. Because we haven't finished out the other two logs yet, assume some time has passed since then, in case anyone was injured, so that they've had sufficient time to get better.

As for work stuff, you can assume they've been busy with establishing Finnick's fake rock star cred, and investigating some of the intel they'll uncover in those other logs that we haven't quite gotten to yet. JUST DON'T TALK ABOUT WORK and all will be well.

[ it was buffy's idea and she was fully prepared to take absolute responsibility for dragging every girl she could into her and myri's room to watch movies and flip through fashion magazines and voice-over chinese action movies.

she stretched across the bed to dig in the popcorn bowl, popping a few kernels into her mouth. ] Popped corn. Greatest invitation since the bread-slicer. [ she flipped a few pages of the magazine in front of her as she chewed through the handful of popcorn. ]

[ Kat was skeptical when she heard the fashion magazine part, but as long as there was no toe nail painting involved, she'd agree to junk food and action movies, duh. Right now, she's on Myri's bed, with her combat boots crossed at the ankles, laptop open next to her. ]

If you slather it in enough butter.

[rationalizes]

[ Gar's pouring herself a glass of wine, because she is just that classy. No, she is not going to get sloshed tonight 8| ]

I wonder how much we're going to regret this in the morning.

[slay]

Oh, you mean in the morning when we have so much work to do? [ there's a sarcasm to it -- this is the point of having a little time off. not having to worry about tomorrow morning. besides, buffy'll probably still get just as much sleep as she normally does, so she may be biased. ] I'm personally foreseeing zero regret.

[witchwoman]

We may actually feel better to have a night without thinking about all the seriousness this mission has brought us. [Myri pipes up.] Perhaps we'll come at it with new perspective in the morning.

[AKA - sometimes a good night at a tavern to forget about your troubles helps keep you going. Amaranth chirps his agreement, rubbing up against Gar's ankles and purring loudly.]

I think you've made a friend.

[ Kat watches Amaranth with a little smile. ] I wish I had a cat. I've been studying magic long enough now to have a familiar of my own. And how sweet is it to get to take your pet everywhere? Because who the hell is gonna argue with a mage about leaving their cat outside? Nobody, that's who.

[rationalizes]

[ Gar reaches down to pet the animal, but a little awkwardly... and then she lets out a little sneeze, covering her face with her forearm. She wrinkles her nose as she draws away, with a frown. ]

S-sorry. Mild allergy. It's usually fine if I take something...

[slay]

[ at the sneeze, buffy leans over and hoists amaranth up onto the bed beside her, scritching behind his ears. ] All right, that's enough of that. C'mere. No circulation of dander, got it? [ she leans in to press her nose to the cat's, then turns to kat ... the person. ] How do you even get one of those?

[witchwoman]

[Myri flashes an apologetic look to Gar, hoping that she hasn't ruined the woman's fun with her familiar's presence.

Myri's certainly glad that Buffy hasn't directed the question at her because she... hasn't the slightly clue. Amaranth has been with her since she was a toddler. There's not a time that she's known without him near her.

But she is curious how others might go about finding a companion like Amaranth.]

I can't imagine you with a creature as complacent as a kitten, Sir Kat.

[shootfirst]

Yeah, well it'd be easier than lugging a tiger beyond international datelines all the time.

[ To Buffy: ] There's actually a couple different ways to go about it. Most mages summon up a familiar from the great beyond, but you can also pick an actual animal from this world and do a binding spell with it to forge that connection. It's pretty sweet though, I mean, it could even cast spells for me. And sometimes you can learn how to talk to them.

[slay]

At the risk of sounding way PETA here ... doesn't that seem kind of oogie? [ she glances around for confirmation, then looks back at kat. ] I mean, just picking an animal and being all, "You. You're gonna help me fight evil, and you're choiceless in the matter and it'll be dangerous and possibly hurt and you'll probably die a sad, early death." I know they're just animals, but ... [ she shrugs. ] Just a little wiggy. That they don't get a choice in it.

[witchwoman]

It's not how it sounds.

[Myri adds, even though her situation may be different than what Kat describes.]

It's quite a lot like becoming a Knight, actually. Imagine being given the opportunity to be more. There's danger, to be certain, but also a sense of purpose.

If you ask nicely, I'm sure Amaranth would tell you.

[rationalizes]

I don't think any familiar who's been granted the ability to speak to their owner has ever had cause to complain.

[slay]

But, isn't that just kind of making the best of it? I mean, you're stuck with it either way, might as well look at the positives.

[shootfirst]

If anything, it's giving the animals a better chance of survival: the longer they stay connected to us, the more powerful they get.

[witchwoman]

[Amaranth chirps his agreement. Myri just smiles.]

It isn't like having a pet. It's more than that.

And I know for a fact that Amaranth would not leave, given the choice. He hardly leaves me be when I wish to be alone, as it is!

[slays]

[ she just shakes her head, sighing. ]

Must be a magic-users thing.

[rationalizes]

I don't suppose the rest of us can fully appreciate it, no.

[witchwoman]

There are some things we cannot understand until it is experienced. Much like I doubt I can ever imagine taking on brutes single-handedly.

[She playfully tosses a piece of popcorn at Buffy.]

Or ever learn how to work those...computers properly.

[slay]

[ buffy wrinkles her nose as it hits her, but then she moves to pick it up and stuff it in her mouth like it's a move of stubborn rebellion. ]

You'll learn. Experience, remember? Just takes time.

[shootfirst]

Plus, I mean, you have me as a computer teacher. If you don't turn into a full blown whiz kid, I'll be severely disappointed in myself.

[rationalizes]

Not everyone has to excel in every field. That's why we work in teams.

[witchwoman]

[Myri looks at each of them in turn, her face breaking into a bigger smile.]

I'm very glad that I happened upon this world.

[slay]

I'm very glad you did, too. [ there's a warm, decisive smile at that and she links her arm through myri's. the credits on the movie roll. ] Ooh! Votes for what's on next?
