[ This log covers any non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in New Orleans. Because we haven't finished out the other two logs yet, assume some time has passed since then, in case anyone was injured, so that they've had sufficient time to get better.

As for work stuff, you can assume they've been busy with establishing Finnick's fake rock star cred, and investigating some of the intel they'll uncover in those other logs that we haven't quite gotten to yet. JUST DON'T TALK ABOUT WORK and all will be well.

Probably shouldn't push you, then. [He tilts his head, but he still looks pretty insolent. He's got no plans to stop pushing her.]

I think anger management's what you're supposed to do to not hit people. You know, Pilates and counting to ten and such. All sorts of things that don't end with me being black and blue.

I think you like being black and blue. [ the remark is dry, dismissing the entirety of his retort all in one fell swoop. ]

[bigbad]

[...he doesn't hate it, and for a moment his eyes darken a little at the thought.]

I like being able to hit back.

[slay]

Fairly certain that has something to do with why you can't.

[bigbad]

[He rolls his eyes.] I said hit back, not eat.

[slay]

Hey, I'm just saying. [ she holds her hands up in a gesture of surrender, then finishes off her drink. ]

[bigbad]

[It mollifies him, though he wasn't that mad to begin with. He glances at her glass as it empties.] Want more?

[slay]

[ she holds up her hands in a refusal. ] Pass. Definitely don't want to spend the night curled up around a toilet seat, getting friendly. Possibly even interested in feeling my face tomorrow morning.

[bigbad]

[He smiles because the way she says it is downright cute.] A wise plan. Better than any I've had.

[slay]

I'm a planner. [ apparently. she drops her hands to the table and scoots her chair back, hopping out of it. she casts him a questioning glance. ] Walk me home?

[bigbad]

[Well, that's unexpected. He looks at her with some surprise. It's one thing having drinks. Asking him to walk her home...

He probably shouldn't think about it too much. But it seems like a good sign.]

Sure. I mean... I am headed there too.

[slay]

That is the idea.

[bigbad]

[He stands up, then, giving her a smile.] Then it'd be my pleasure. [Man, this has been the best night since before she knew what he was.]

[slay]

[ it's the easiest thing to do and the hardest, slipping back into this like they were fine again. she can't forget what he is, or that every part of her screams that she should be against it, that he's wrong and evil and that there's a reason she dreams of being killed by things like him. she hunches her shoulders and drifts out the door of the bar, folding her arms over her chest and glancing up at the starless sky. not starless. just couldn't see them from this far in the city. ]

[bigbad]

[He walks beside her in silence for a little while, not sure what to say. It's so nice, them being friends again. He still worries that it won't last.]

I've been thinking about the soul thing.

[It comes out quietly, before he can think too much about saying it. It's such a bad idea, they've been getting along he doesn't need to endanger that with serious talking.]

[slay]

Yeah? [ she tries to keep her voice impassive. questioning, not judging one way or another. ]

[bigbad]

Well, maybe it's different where I'm from. Or maybe something went wrong with me, or I somehow... got it back. [Can that happen? With souls? Spike doesn't know.] I think I'd be different, you know. If I didn't have one. Feel emptier or something.

[slay]

Spike. [ her tone is soft. it's letting him down easy voice. she comes to a halt and turns to look at him, sympathy burning in her eyes. ] There is no different. Vampires are--God, they make monster movies about them.

There are no Edward Cullens of the world, and if there were? They'd still be evil. You've figured out, or your ... migraines have figured out some way to keep it under control. And, that's great. But, that doesn't change the big, evil facts.

[bigbad]

[He looks away from her.] But if I'm so evil, then why do I want to be good at all? And it's not the headaches. I joined the Knights before I knew about those.

[slay]

I don't know. [ she tucks her hands into her pockets, shrugging. ] I don't have any more answers than you do.

[bigbad]

[It's encouraging, her admitting she doesn't know. It makes him think that just maybe, she's wrong about it. He's not sure why he didn't doubt her more from the start, but maybe he just needed to hear her say it. He forces a bit of a smile, trying to lighten the mood.]

And this is all assuming the soul's a real thing, not just religious nonsense.

Oh, you mean kinda like how vampires are sci-fi/fantasy nonsense?

I wish we were sci-fi nonsense. Maybe I could have a lightsaber then.
