[ As missions go, it's pretty straightforward. A week ago, a large, creepy looking castle materialized on a cliffside above a small town in Portugal, and the locals are too freaked to go check it out. No one's gone in or out, and theoretically it could just be empty. But seeing as how it probably came from the Shadow World, it could also house artifacts that the Knights should get their hands on before evil doers do. So it's their job to scope it out, maybe loot the place of the good stuff, and make sure no threats are hiding there.

Val'drin surveys the place with hands on his hips from the gate. ]

I believe the phrase is a 'fixer upper'.

[ whereas val'drin jumps nimbly backwards onto the stairs with ease, and then leans over to look down the hole at whichever of you all fall down there. yeah, he's not gonna try to catch any of you. fuck that. ]

[Chiaki jumps out of the way as well - she's equally uninterested in helping anybody else out right now. They're the ones chucking grenades about, after all. :|]

[Morgan's been keeping to himself at the back of the group this whole time because Pat's an idiot and forgot to tag this. Oh, he's also lucky enough to scramble backwards just in time and avoid falling down the hole.]

Suddenly knocking doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

[Thoster's shitty Reflex save (I rolled a 1 guys. No joke.) makes sense. He just kicked a door in. He's not exactly great with the balancing.

So down he goes. With Fred. Sorry, bro.]

[Deadpool got a 14. Whoops. But he got a 17 on his knowledge (fourth wall) check! So he shouts as he falls down the chute.]

Ground Floor

[ annnnd the porch hole slams shut again, as the debris from the explosion in the lobby settles, amidst a cloud of smoke. val'drin looks at the other two who escaped the trap, and shrugs. ]

Nothing for it but to keep on, then. Perhaps we'll find them the long way round. [ he does not sound particularly concerned for their welfare, as he steps across the porch without stepping on the trap floor, and ducks inside. ]

The Chute

[ yeahhh thoster's nat one means that he conks his head on the lip of the trapdoor as he falls through it. For five damage. Ouch. That'll leave a scar. I'M SORRY THE DICE HATE YOU THOSTER, maybe you'll... reunite with that cleric soon (unsure).

also make a reflex save for landing, everybody,(dc 13) or suffer 1 hp damage. alternatively you can do a tumble check at the same dc if you're cool like that.

[Well thank god he made the second Ref save, because those 5 hit points only leave him with 3 to stand on for the rest of this journey.

So he smacks his head and is probably bleeding from the face, but lands like a... well, not a bad ass because he only got a 15, but he LANDS, so that's good.]

[ and with a 21, hot damn, fred lands in a crouch on his feet, and then stands, shooting a Look at Deadpool. ]

[ he turns away to glance back at thoster. ] You alright? [ they seem to be in a small, dark chamber, though the sound of dripping water to their right makes it clear that it opens up in that direction. ]

Aye, I'll be fine once the room stops spinning. [But he's too proud to worry about the head wound right now.]

Suppose we'd better get moving. [He glances to the right, towards the sound.] This way?

[Morgan steps over the trap carefully and walks through the door Thoster so politely opened for them as well.]

Oh, I'm sure we'll hear Wade sooner or later.

[I'M NOT BEHIND I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT] Before or after he manages to blow up the entire castle trying to get out?

[ val'drin glances at her out of the corner of his eye as he pauses in the midst of the lobby, as the smoke clears, allowing them to see the large staircase, dark wood comprising all the walls and furniture, and the dark hallways branching off to either side. ]

My wager is on 'before', but he does like to surprise. [ he nods at the stairs ] Door number one, two, or up?

Three directions for three people.

[He eyes the stairs quizzically.]

Perhaps the lady should decide.

Hey, the grenade could have made the trap blow up without us! [He draws his beretta which is a kind of gun I have recently learned and starts walking towards the sound.]

The good news is that trap's probably been in place for years. It doesn't look like this place has exactly seen a lot of action. So I don't think anybody's home. [ the passage way opens up into a narrow dark hall, the walls made of stone, and wet to the touch. there's hardly any light whatsoever, and the passage curves, making it impossible to see ahead even with a light. LISTEN CHECKS YO. ]

[Chiaki eyes her three choices critically, just barely keeping from rolling her eyes at the fact that the decision is apparently up to her now.]

Let's go with up, then. [And with that, she heads over to the staircase, making her way up the stairs.]

It is true that most people tend to keep their most precious valuables at a higher position in their homes when they possess multiple stories. [ he says this as if it were an interesting factoid, no other reason, really 8| ] Up it is. [ he follows close behind her, the stairs creaking a bit under their every step. spiders crawl across the railing, and val'drin plinks one of the side viciously with a finger and thumb.

at the top of the steps, they find themselves in wide hallway, with arching ceilings, and a moth-eaten red rug. a large grandfather clock dominates the wall, and various doors stand closed all down the length of it on either side. ]

Eeny meeny miney...

Shouldn't be too tough to find our way back up to the others then. What's it they say? Nowhere to go but up?

[Well, apparently that blow to the head woke Thoster up and made him more aware of his surroundings- because he got a nat 20 listen check.]

[Listen check..... 9. Luckily Thoster's paying attention.]

I thought it was nowhere to go but dead.

[ Thoster can hear it then, where no one else can, an eerie melody that seems to be floating down to them from somewhere in the recesses of the castle. A morose song from a single stringed instrument. ]

I'm gonna buy you a new book of sayings for your Knighting ceremony.

[After a moment Morgan, staying well away from the spiders, follows behind Chiaki and Val'drin.]

[Well, that's quaint. The bard catches the song. He holds up a hand and makes a quick sh to try to quiet the two.]

D'you hear that? Music. [He takes a few steps, trying to gauge whether the sound seems closer or farther, trying to pinpoint the location, essentially.]
