And back to the hotel go the ladies, ready to say their goodbyes, with Myri & Buffy heading to Chicago to reunite Rafael with Jade, and Kat & Gar meeting the rest of the team back at the castle to try to convince Wynn to let them remain on their mission...

Flight to Chicago

[ The flight time is approx 11 hours. Feel free to make your own threads below, or sit and chat with Rafael! Who looks... pretty darn lost in thought as he stares out the window. ]

[slay]

[ buffy settles into the seat beside rafael, quiet at first, because she doesn't want to interrupt, but eventually she breaks the silence. ]

Can I ask you something?

[romanticidal]

[ if he's offended at being interrupted, he's really good at hiding it. he smiles slightly as he shifts in his seat to look over at her. ]

Si, of course.

[slay]

What did you think happened to Jade? I mean, when I first saw her photo, I thought maybe you'd just gotten separated coming through the Veil. But if you were born here ... [ she shakes her head, brow furrowing. ] I guess I just -- I want to understand. What your manager meant by "dead."

[romanticidal]

oh, there goes the smile. :(

his eyes dart back to the window and he seems a zillion miles away as he considers his response. finally, he looks back down at the seat in front of him. ]

Isabella did not believe she would ever return. Could ever return, from where she had gone. [ there's clear hesitancy to say much more ] In that way, she was as good as dead.

[slay]

Where she had gone. [ buffy says it slowly, shaking her head. ] I don't understand. Where'd she go?

[romanticidal]

[ he glances over at her, as if trying to decide something, and then just says: ] Out of this world.

[slay]

Out of this ... [ buffy shakes her head again, still not understanding, lips pursing as she tries to work through it. ] You don't mean ... back to the Shadow World, do you?

[romanticidal]

[ he glances at her again, and then says, almost apologetically ] No.

[slay]

Then, where ... ? [ she stops, her lips pursing into a line and she holds her hands up in placating surrender. ] I'm sorry. I know, it's a touchy subject, I just -- Jade's connected to something that we're trying really hard to find. The more we know about her, the more we might be able to understand about how it involves her.

[witchwoman]

[Myri has learned a great deal about planes since leaving the castle, but she still finds herself glued to a window for half the time. She's glad to be on a private plane again, as it means that Amaranth can join her in the seat beside her- which is precisely where the oversized cat-like creature is laying. He's currently curled up and snoring. Having wings means that you aren't as excited about flight, perhaps.]

[romanticidal]

[ at some point rafael looks over, watching amaranth for a bit, before piping up: ] He or she?

[witchwoman]

[That shakes Myri out of her staring session.]

Hmm? Oh, Amaranth is a he. [Saying it doesn't feel exactly right, but it's the easiest answer. Hearing his name, the familiar stirs and lifts his large head to look at Rafael, violet eyes blinking before he yawns and scratches behind his ear with a large talon-like paw.]

[romanticidal]

A beloved pet? Or perhaps something more?

[witchwoman]

[Well, he already knows that they're Shadowkind, so there's no harm in telling the truth, right?]

Amaranth is my familiar. I am a witchwoman.

[And even despite all she's seen since coming through to this place, it's hard not to say it while bracing herself for backlash of some sort.]

[romanticidal]

[ all he does is smile actually, as if pleased with the news ] Where'd you learn your craft?

[witchwoman]

[She looks up slowly, actually making eye contact and blushing slightly at her initial reaction to being honest.]

A woman was kind enough to take me in as a small child. She was also a witchwoman. Her name was Magretha.

[Was. Past tense. It still gave Myri nightmares to think about.]

[romanticidal]

Was this here? Or in the Shadow World?

[slay]

[ after she's stuck her foot in her mouth enough times with rafael, buffy moves to sit with myri, smiling when she notices how she still just stares out the window the whole time. ]

See anything good?

[witchwoman]

[Myri looks over her shoulder at Buffy and smiles.]

I know it is the same path we took to get here, but it always seems so... extraordinary. I think I could stay up here forever and never tire of it.

[She stretches her limbs, as if they're restless at the thought.]

I hope the others do not get in too much trouble while we are away.

[slay]

Ahh, they'll be all right. Big tough knights and all. Besides, I'm pretty sure Kat's gonna yell louder at Wynn than he does at the rest of them. [ she gets comfortable in the seat, turning her attention away from myri to glance past her out the window. ] Maybe someday you can retire, get a nice penthouse with a cloudy view. That'd be sort of like living up here.

[witchwoman]

[Myri doesn't really know what a penthouse is, but she gets the idea.]

Most nights when I dream? I dream of flying.

It feels so real- like a memory you can't quite pinpoint. And it makes me think-

[She stops and shakes her head] I must sound so silly.

[slay]

Makes you think maybe you did it before? [ buffy ventures. maybe it's not the same thing. but her dreams definitely feel like things she's done before, that aren't exactly her memories. but she has done them before, if she can trust mr. gray. demon fighter and all. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri looks up quickly, then nods, smiling bashfully again]

But they are just dreams. This is the closest to flying I'll ever truly see. Perhaps I am merely feeling what Amaranth feels.

[Except she doesn't believe it, even though it's a perfectly logical option.]

[slay]

You never know. Sometimes, things that seem crazy ... well, they're more real than you think. [ she looks all distant and over-identify-y. she snaps out of it though and gives myri a smile. ] Magic, for instance.
