Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Spike's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Hide members - the largest sect in the castle, with the most representatives here, and Lan, Wynn, and Dovan wait up at the front of the room for Spike to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides. 

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Spike."

And since your look is tacky, that's why plate armor's the order of the day. Shiny and classy, so that even if you're dead-set on looking like roadkill most days, you look knightly for ceremony.

It's old fashioned. I don't see you wearing your classy armour when you don't have to.

That's because I have what we call fashion sense.

[there's a demon Spike could have gone to about that...]

Maybe I have one too and it's just different from yours.

Fairly sure fashion's a li'l more objective than that.

Which is why all fashionable people look like little cookie cutter men and women. No bloody thanks.

[ ouch. ]

... Good to know I look so copy-pastey to you.

[...wait crap.]

I didn't mean you. You're not some magazine model. [...no, wait, that definitely doesn't make it better.] I mean, you could be one if you wanted. But you, uh, you make it your own? [...he's pretty sure he's just digging himself deeper. So he adds weakly:] You're very pretty.

[ she's wearing a smile when he finishes, eyebrows raised as she just lets him continue to stick his foot in his mouth. ]

You done digging? 'Cause, you know, I think I see China.

[bigbad]

[...at least she's amused, not angry or hurt. He holds up a hand, glancing away to cover his own smile.] I'm done. Sorry, I, uh, really didn't mean to insult you.
