Perhaps I've forgotten just as much. [She shrugs] There's no way to be certain.

[bancroft]

And as such, nothing to be gained from dwelling on it. Whether one remembers their past or not.

[witchwoman]

Exactly. We must all move forward. New lives can be forged. I've lived my life, trying to do good and right for the world. There's no reason why I cannot do that here as well.

[bancroft]

I think I can rather say I like you, Ms. de Tanos. Sir de Tanos, pardon.

[She blushes and duck to his a bashful smile.]

Myri is fine. I don't much feel like a knight yet.

What will it take? Slaying a dragon?

[witchwoman]

[She knows he's joking, which is why she only looks slightly horrified.]

I would never! I only wish I could see one up close.

[bancroft]

[ he gives an enigmatic grin ] Stick with the Knights: you might be surprised how opportunities present themselves.

Have you seen one? [Oh, she's got an interest in that topic.]

[bancroft]

[witchwoman]

[Her jaw drops.]

I... Oh... Would you- I mean, I would love to hear about it.

[bancroft]

It's perhaps less thrilling than you might imagine. They are quite rare in their own world, let alone in this one, but like people, they come in all sorts. The ones I encountered had no interest in feasting on the villagers.

[witchwoman]

I think they are quite different where I come from... From what I've read in books, at least.

[Why yes, Myri sought out books on dragons. Was anyone surprised??]

I've never seen one up close. But I've heard so many stories in the villages I visited.

[bancroft]

And what kind of stories might those be?

[witchwoman]

All sorts, depending on who you speak with. Most are ignorant tales to scare children into behaving. [She smiles.]

But they say a dragon's fur is what makes them seem nearly invisible in the sky. I've never been close enough to say for certain.

[bancroft]

[ that gets a huge grin out of him ] Dragons have fur where you come from?

[witchwoman]

So they say! I've never been close enough to confirm. But it would certainly make sense. Amaranth is a flywacket, which is a distant relative to the dragon. And he has fur.

[bancroft]

Well, if you ask me, I trust things that are furry a lot faster than those with scales, in most cases. Less double tongues, for one.

[witchwoman]

So they say dragons have scales here? How interesting.

[bancroft]

Giant lizards, after all. Well, bit like a lizard, bit like a snake.

Do they talk, in your world?

[witchwoman]

Again, I've only heard it whispered that they do. But there are many voices out there, so I think it's possible.

[bancroft]

I've found that anything's possible, especially when all the universes seem to be converging on the spot, nowadays.

[witchwoman]

Do you really think so? [The idea of seeing a dragon, of talking with one... It fills her heart. It feels right.]

This places gets more wonderful every day.

[bancroft]

I'll even place a bet on it. What do you say?
