[[ Towering above our heroes is the fifteen-story NOVA Record Headquarters, an L-shaped structure tipped with a winged roof, covered in reflective window linings that paint a portrait of the New Orleans skyline across its panels. Foot traffic streams in and out, a parade of Bluetooth wearing suits, women in nine-inch heels, and extravagantly dressed stars surrounded by guards and entourage members.

But the lavish exterior hides a dark secret or two, and the Knights have sworn to shine a light on all of them.

Why is a record company funding a church that supports Shadowkind slavery? What are the 'experiments' for which they're buying up Shadowkind DNA, and how does it relate to the mysterious behavioral-control chip found in the displacer beast released in the museum? And, of course, what do they want with Jade, and what do they know about the Lazarus Talisman's current location?

Answers are rarely straightforward on their journey, and it looks like another complication or two are on the way.... ]

Mr. Becksworth is organizing a launch of a new line of singers, meant to appeal to fans of all genres, as symbolic of the new direction he wants Nova to be taking. Miss Jade is exceptionally talented. Naturally, he wanted her on board.

[bigbad]

So where does the secret bedroom with the evil side room come in? Because that certainly didn't seem to have anything to do with appealing to fans.

[snivelling]

He had the room furnished for his adviser. I still don't know why, she never uses it.

[Des tenses.] What's his advisor like? Aside from "tall, dark, and culty?"

[snivelling]

She's not his girlfriend. She advises him in business ventures. She's incredibly intelligent, business savvy, a real sharp one. He doesn't do anything without her input.

Did she advise him on his business venture with Angelo Nassi?

I imagine so? I don't recall the name, but if they've had dealings, I'm sure she gave him advice on it.

Well, then, on the subject of names, perhaps you could tell us hers. We haven't caught wind of it yet. [ thomas gives a sudden wide, sharklike grin, that showcases his far-too-sharp teeth as he leans closer (intimidate check of 26) ] And where we might find her.

[snivelling]

[ he draws back, with wide horrified eyes and stammers weakly. ] I- I don't know her name. S-she never uses one.

So what does Chad call her? [Through gritted teeth. He's not nearly as impressive as Thomas, but he can try.]

[snivelling]

The... [ he mumbles something under his breath and thomas grabs his arm and twists it up in the air, threatening to bend it backwards, so he spits out ] The Mind Master. She's called the Mind Master. I-it's just a nickname.

[slay]

Good. That feeling? That's the feeling of cooperation. So, how do we find the Mind Master?

[snivelling]

S-she's... around. She lives not far from here. O-out in the bayou. I-it's very difficult to find and a bit, er... wild, but I can draw you a ... a map.

[slay]

I've got a better idea: you can come with and show us.

[bancroft]

You can take a small team out there to investigate. I found other tracks in the ducts - evidence that we're not the only ones scoping things out around here. I mean to find whoever it is that's nosing about.

[snivelling]

[ he abruptly looks pale as a sheet, sliding back further in his chair and shaking his head nervously ] I-I-I'm not going there! You can't make me. I won't.

[bigbad]

[Spike leans in close, smirking at him.] Is that so, you pathetic little ponce? [He shifts, fangs coming out (intimidate 28).] Because I'd really like to try.

[snivelling]

[ he makes a pathetic keening choking noise that sounds like a sob ] Better you kill me than she gets her hands on me.

You don't know what we might have in store for you. [ he jerks his head at spike, and actually sounds like a serious hardass for once (intimidate 20) ] She that bad that you'd take your chances with him?

[snivelling]

Anything's better. I'll show you where to go, but I won't go in there. You'll have to finish the job Kathryne started.

[bigbad]

None of us would cry about that.

[ thomas interrupts before spike can make any more threats of bodily harm ] No time to waste then. And now you're going to walk out of this building with a couple of us, and act as if nothing is wrong whatsoever. You'll smile at the secretary, wave goodbye, and proceed to the car.

Is that clear?

[snivelling]

But... but my leg, I can't walk.

[bancroft]

Don't make me regret this. [ and he places a hand on his knee... and a bright white light appears between his palm and the wound. when he lifts his hand, it's healed. ]

Mark, Desmond. Can you escort Mr. Gilbert here down to the vehicle? [ he glances at the others ] Buffy, Spike: I need you to come with me.
