[[ Several of the Knights discovered a secret room hidden in Nova Headquarters, full of strange occultish paraphernalia and guarded by monstrous warriors. Amid this was direct evidence of an interest in the Talisman. They also took captive Chad Becksworth's personal assistant, Olean Gilbert, who has information about the location of the mysterious woman that Burt told Finnick about - the one whose presence has had a major effect on Chad's personality. Olean doesn't even know the woman's name, calling her the "Mind Master", and identifying her as Chad's 'advisor'.

The Knights also discovered that the other Dragon's Claw, Sir Jack Chessing, had followed his own secret mission to Nova Headquarters, and he'll be meeting back at the hotel with them to explain what brought him there...

This log covers any non-work related shenanigans the Knights have while staying in New Orleans, immediately following the last log and extending over the next two weeks.

So, whatever's causing these headaches, it just cares that much about intent? People hurt each other accidentally all the time. That doesn't seem like a very good means of stopping it from happening.

[bigbad]

It's inside my head. Maybe that's the only way it can tell I'm attacking. [Though fuck if he knows how it knows whether he's fighting something human or not. These headaches seem to be making up rules as they go along.] Probably means we can spar, at least. In a way.

[slay]

And just go off hope and prayer as to whether it fires or not? Gee. Sounds promising.

[bigbad]

I think we can manage it. [He throws a loose, incredibly easy to dodge punch (atk 9) to get them started.] It's like dancing.

[slay]

[ she sidesteps it easily, dodging and then crouching down before springing up to catch him in the jaw with an uppercut (atk 19, dmg 1). she keeps the real punch out of her hits, more working out and hitting the motions than anything (aka i'm not adding her strength mods to anything). ]

[bigbad]

[So kind, Buffy. He steps back with the punch, then moves to retaliate with an easily dodge-able or block-able kick (atk 18) moving around her as he did.]

So, have you talked to Jack yet?

[slay]

[ that gets a sharp laugh out of buffy that's not entirely positive, and in fact borders a little on the cynical. she grabs his foot and twists, dropping him to the ground by spinning his body with the ease of superstrength (atk 25, dmg 5). ]

We talked. Well. He talked, I babbled. It was heartwarming. Shoulda been there.

[bigbad]

[He props himself up on his elbows for a moment.] That bad, huh? [He springs up to his feet, using the momentum to bring his fist towards Buffy's stomach... but he pulls the punch at the last second because he's afraid he's being too aggressive and will set off the chip, so it's pretty sloppy (atk 11).] What'd he say?

[slay]

[ she hops back to dodge the punch, then twists her body to spin and deliver a backwards roundhouse to the side of his face - but it skirts right past his nose because she falls short (atk 13). ] That he hasn't been here because he knows I don't need him.

[bigbad]

[He ducks past her leg and delivers a quick punch to her torso (atk 20, dmg 7). It's a little harder than he meant to hit, and his head flares a warning (dmg 1). He grimaces.] Do you need him?

[slay]

Well, I haven't. [ she admits it begrudgingly, coughing at the end of the sentence as she's wasted the last of the air that wasn't knocked out of her. she wheezes, doubling over a little, and then reaches out to grab for his shoulder in the hopes of a headbutt, but falls short (atk 14). ]

[bigbad]

[He bats her head away and tries to follow up with a knee to her chest, but he overcompensates for last time. It's slow and weak (atk 11).] But you wanted him around.

[slay]

And I still do. [ she sidesteps the knee and brings her elbow down against the back of his neck (atk 20, dmg 1). ] But, I don't need him. I've been fine - managing.

[bigbad]

You are more than competent. And independent. [He makes a pained noise and tries to stomp on her foot (atk 11) but misjudges.] Would you even listen if he tried to order you around?

[slay]

Of course I'd listen. He's still a dragon's claw. [ nat 1 attack means she tries to jump out of the way of his foot and into a spinning kick, but she just trips over herself and stumbles into him. so at least she takes him with her still when she hits the ground. after a beat, she sits up off of him some. ]

Maybe. [ a longer beat as she dusts herself off, then finally shrugs. ] If it was something I was already planning to do anyway.

[bigbad]

[Nice attack, Buffy. Spike sure doesn't seem to mind having her all over him like that. Even if he's not sure if it was an intentional attack or her tripping. He raises his eyebrows, propping himself up on his elbows.]

Like I said.

[slay]

[ spot check 19 means buffy shifts uncomfortably as she sits up, realizing something is poking her and - oh. something catches in her throat and she's careful not to draw attention, though her body language tenses up some.

that ... probably happens a lot, right? ]

Right. I'm a strong, independent woman. I don't need a knight of my bone. [ beat. ] Own! Of my own. [ she gets to her feet and dusts herself off. ] Good talk.

[bigbad]

[Bone? Oh. Awkward. Should he say something? He grimaces a little and pushes himself up as well.] You're not done, are you?

[slay]

Headache! I ... I have a headache. And - tired. I'm just, you know. Tired and achy. Bad time of the month for sparring, really. [ if you haven't figured out by now under which other circumstances a woman may use all of these excuses idek what to do with you tbh.

she's backing away sheepishly. also it bears noting that it is not, in fact, periodville currently for her (but bluff check 26) and she's just saying that to get him to stop asking questions because that sort of thing usually works with guys. ]

[bigbad]

[...well, he believes her somehow (sense motive 25) but he still looks confused because she doesn't smell like it's her time of the month (wis check 16) so he frowns. Must be PMS.]

If you say so. [She doesn't have to have sex spar if she doesn't want to. He doesn't need all the excuses.] But I did have more questions for you.

... More questions. Right. Questions. I can answer those. [ hrnnnnnn so much for speedy getaway. ]

[bigbad]

[...] Want a bit of water first? [BECAUSE YOU LOOK LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO PASS OUT FROM AWKWARD.]

[ because she might want to conveniently faint like a waif to escape this conversation tbh she needs to keep her options open. ]

[OKAY FINE. He rolls his eyes a little.] Just tell me about the demons.

[ she bristles subtly, defensive. ]

What about them? You saw them. Big, scaly, slimy. Unpleasant.
