[ Yesterday, members of team failboat went to the bayou hideout of the mysterious woman known only as "the Mind Master", on some intel from the captured Olean Gilbert. What they discovered was a very bizarre woman, who played mind games with them, and seemed to evince little concern for their interference. Another man, whom may have been Chad Becksworth entered, and told her that "Decker" was finished stalling and all was in readiness... The two of them fled before the Knights could get much information from either of them, and set a hideous creature to attack them: which appeared to be the result of a Frankenstein-like scientific process that sewed a human woman together with a giant snake.

The next day, another team of Knights infiltrated NOVA HQ to hack into appointment records and discover the names of those intended to meet with Chad Becksworth. Just as they downloaded the list, the scheduled meeting attendees arrived: it seemed they were meeting today, and the Dragon's Claws insisted that the younger Knights retire to the hotel, where all will be able to monitor the meeting onscreen as they spy on it and broadcast video. Knights' allies (Des, Rafael, Elena) are invited to watch as well. ]

Part of maturing is recognizing that the world doesn't revolve around your feelings. Anything less starts to make a person downright pathetic.

And so here he is, hurting both of them by refusing to be a man and let her have a new life.

A tragedy. That's what that is. But not in the way he thinks.

[He watches her thoughtfully, tilting his head. Spike didn't remember his past life. He might have been in love before, he might not have. He thinks he must have, though. Why else would what Dumage is saying ring so wrong to him? Is he just that hopeless a romantic?]

the question seems to take her entirely by surprise, and for a moment her cynical expression loses traction, as if she's not certain what to say that could keep her image of casual bitterness intact. there's a beat before she says with very intentional flippancy: ]

I've already learned my lessons, if that's what you mean.

And now I'm better for it.

[Uh huh. He saw that look. He reaches over and squeezes her shoulder for a moment before dropping his hand.]

It could happen again, you know, if you let it. Might even end well.

[ she stares at him as if she can't fathom the idea that he might be actually trying to comfort her or... whatever. as if she's entirely unused to that sort of thing. she bristles as if instinctively, but doesn't look away. ]

I don't need love. And I certainly don't need to gamble needless heartbreak and all that mess on ... whatever it is you think love's good for.

There are more pressing concerns on my mind. If I want a distraction, that's what a good shag's for.

You must get lonely, though. [He took a sip of his drink, still watching her intently.]

If I didn't know any better, I'd think you almost cared.

[He smiles at her.] Of course I care. We are friends.

That's not really something I hear very often.

Well, you do put a lot of effort into being unlikable. Just doesn't work on me. [He's in love with the girl who spent a bunch of time punching him okay.]

Oh, I wouldn't say I aspire to be unlikable. I just don't see the reason in no one saying what we're all really thinking.

And your excuse for sending Myri that picture of Finnick? [YOU ARE SO LUCKY HE DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT THE FLASHING INCIDENT.]

Come now. She's not a child. She might have been embarrassed, but part of her enjoyed it. Anyone with eyes can see what's going on there. From the both of them.

You're tormenting her needlessly. She can enjoy him in her own time.

[postergirl]

It's not torment. She likes the boy. Maybe I'm happy for them. Has anyone considered that?

If I were tormenting her, she would know it.

[bigbad]

Maybe you need to find a better way to express your happiness, then. Like you know, not hitting on him.

[postergirl]

I'm just being friendly. I can't help how it comes off. [ she fixes spike with a very deliberate once-over, tongue tucked behind her bottom teeth ] Believe me. People know when I'm hitting on them, too.

Subtlety's never been my strong suit.

[bigbad]

I'm sure. [Seriously, Dumage, you're the absolute opposite of subtle.] Just try not to give the girl such a hard time, would you? She's... innocent. Probably won't last forever, doing our work, but while it lasts.

[postergirl]

But it does seem so dreadfully patriarchal, doesn't it, treasuring innocence so much? What's wrong with being a worldly woman, after all? [ she may be pulling your leg here, spike ]

[bigbad]

[He smirks and leans towards her.] Maybe I like both.

[postergirl]

Experience breeds cynicism. It's an unstoppable force, darling.

[bigbad]

Maybe. But while you can always get more cynical, you can never really reclaim that innocence. [He shrugs, turning back to his drink.] I don't even remember being innocent.

[postergirl]

You're not jealous of them, are you?

[bigbad]

No. [Not exactly, anyway. Maybe a part of him wishes he could be like that, but it's not who he is. He's all right with that. Most of the time, anyway.] Just... like seeing 'em happy, is all.

So all that hard vampire exterior masks a warm, nougat-y center, does it?
