It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Monday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Sir Luthir stands off to one side, all impassive elf, armored in his light, beautifully worked metal, and carrying a sword. Red-headed Sir Ironsides hefts an axe over his shoulder and offers a boisterous greeting to those approaching, and Fred helps round people up to the middle of the room.

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

[ at 6'5", fred almost measures up, and he approaches with a leisurely swing of the large sword in his hand, that attests to his easy strength. ]

You sound like a man who's done this before.

[He nods as he quietly assesses him.]

From what little I remember, I'd say that's a good guess.

[Probably since long before he learned to drive.]

Let's see with you're made of, then. C'mon. [ he nods to a circle marked on the floor ]

[It only takes a few steps for him to move into position, and as he settles himself into the spot, he lets his knees gently bend, so that he can hopefully spring into action more easily, and gives a nod to the other to indicate that he's ready.]

[ fred's defense is a 21 to hit btw!

he initiates the dance, moving forward with a sudden heavy strike (atk 24, subdual damage 12) but his next swing is slower, more avoidable (atk 11) ]

[ The first attack catching him off guard, catching him in the side, though he manages to evade the next by shifting to the right and moving in close.

His fist shoots out to try and catch him just under the curve of his ribs (atk nat 20, 9 dmg).]

[ fred sure as hell wasn't expecting that, and the attack causes him to double over slightly, but he recovers quickly. his elbow slams out to the side of dimitri's head (atk 24, dmg 5), and he steps backwards to try another swing, but again, the second move is slow, as he tends to expend most of his power the first time. ]

[Dimitri sees stars for a moment as Fred's elbow collides just slightly off his temple, but he manages to avoid the slow swing that follows with a twist of his torso. He attempts to get in close for another jab, but is just a bit too slow (atk 20).

You've definitely got moves. [ he looks amused, as he makes two strikes in succession that are easy enough for dimitri to side-step instinctively. ] What kind of training?

Guardian training.

[His retaliating attack is also slow (atk 17), as he's not in close enough range after dodging those two swings.]

[ fred presses in with a 19, and 24 (8 dmg), the second slash coming quick and unexpectedly, barely landing ] Guarding what?

[Taking that hit allows him to get in close, returning it with an effective counter (atk 24, dmg 11).]

Moroi. Living vampires.

[It's an important distinction.]

Vampires? [ the surprise totally throws fred off, as he makes a weak attack (11), backs up a step out of the circle, and twists his elbow right into someone passing by. ] Oh! Hey, sorry about that! [ he steps off from them, one hand raised in apology, signaling to dimitri with a finger to stall the fight while he settles back into position ] That's, er... that's something.

[He pauses, standing straight and dropped his guard as his arms hung loosely at his sides. He was still mentally prepared, though, as he always was, even if his body language said otherwise.]

They don't hurt people, unlike their Strigoi counter-parts. Those are likely the kind of vampires you're thinking of.

[Veil!nesia is working in his favor at moments like these, when they thought of one versus the other doesn't make him inwardly cringe.]

I guess I can't say I really know much about vampires, period. I mean I know they're out there. [ and he strikes out with a 23, barely giving dimitri time to react, before sliding out of his space again ] Hellsing handles them here in England.

It's possible that they work differently there. [He barely manages to get out of the way of that one, feels the strike graze his clothing, and can't connect with his counter either (17).]

Guardians protect the good and destroy the bad. Perhaps we're not so different from this Hellsing.

[Though he'd never heard of it before.]

That depends. Is religious extremism your kinda thing? [ and wow, wtf, fred just crit failed and again it's a passerby who suffers. FRED JUST CAN'T STAY IN THE DAMN CIRCLE with this guy wtf. luckily he doesn't actually hit them, just almost does and they shout out and he drops the blade to his side, holding up a hand ] Whoa! Sorry!

No, not at all. [So he'll assume, then, that they aren't alike at all. He watches the rather awkward scene with a raised and questioning eyebrow, and forgoes hitting the guy when he's recovering.] Distracted?

Huh? No, I uh... [ but his gaze does cut to the far end of the room for just a moment and dimitri can make a spot check to try and follow his eye ] Just never met anyone who deals with vampires often.

[Oh he will. (spot 21)]

I wonder how different the vampires I'm used to are from yours.

[ actually he seems to be keeping a close eye on charming and andie who are sparring across the way ] Sunlight, crosses, blood of virgins, that kind of thing?

[He glances toward the fight as well, then, noticing that he has a bit of an advantage over her.]

It's a bit more complicated than that, but those are a few of the factors, yes.

[Moroi vs Strigoi seemed to be a strange concept here.]

[ and as charming delivers a particularly nasty blow to andie, he suddenly drops his sword to his side and brushes dimitri aside ] Whoa, uh, duty calls, I'll be back...

[He watches as Fred heads off, his brow creased with worry for the girl who fell, and he moves to stand off to the side in case he's needed.]
