Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Buffy's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Hide members - the largest sect in the castle, with the most representatives here, and Jack, Wynn, and Dovan wait up at the front of the room for Buffy to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides.

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Buffy Summers."

[ she hides a flush and mutes her smile, glancing away as she tries to collect herself, then glances back at him. ]

Sorta. I mean, I've got a room here. It's supposedly mine. But ... we spend more time in hotel rooms.

[romanticidal]

I believe I can relate to that.

[slay]

Mm. [ that gets a smile and a nod; the noise itself is humoring because he probably gets it way better than she does. ] I've only been doing this a year and I can say I might actually be getting sick of having my pillows fluffed.

[romanticidal]

I hope you are not entirely over being spoiled... because I have some of that to do yet. [ and he pulls out a little velvet box from his pocket, bigger than a ring box, but still looking like potential jewelry ]

[slay]

Spoil - Rafael, what did you ... ? [ she reaches out for the box hesitantly, looking up at him and shaking her head. ] You didn't have to get me anything.

[romanticidal]

It would not be much of a gift if it was only obligatory. [ and inside the box... is this ]

[slay]

[ she looks at him, then down at the box, accepting this. she creaks it open and her breath catches in her throat. jfc rafael this is not friendzone behavior. ]

Perhaps it will help you remember me, once this is all over, and you have moved on to take your place here. [ srsly tho he has bad trauma over not being remembered, gurl ]

[slay]

Rafael. [ her expression softens and she closes the box, looking up at him. ] I could never forget you, even if I tried.

[romanticidal]

[ WHERE HAS HE HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE

he tries to keep his man-pain from spreading across his face, at least. and ... mostly succeeds ] Even so.

Thank you. [ she smiles, holding the box close to her ribcage, then leans up to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. (nat 20 dex) ]

You are most welcome, Buffy. I am glad I could make it today.

[slay]

Me too. [ silence spans. her smile grows sadder. ] It's gonna be a while, isn't it? Before I see you again.

[romanticidal]

I think it is likely so. ... I have gotten used to your company. [ he looks around for other failboat members vaguely, tacking on: ] All of you.

[slay]

[ she looks hopeful at first but deflates at 'all of you' and just nods. ]

Yeah, it's gonna be weird. But, we should have your back again when the tour starts.

[romanticidal]

I can only hope we can do enough, to bring in the revenue Burt requires to keep Nova away from his brother.

[slay]

I'm admittedly working this off all the expertise I have of knowing what Finnick looks like and hearing your voice, but really? I'm ... not all that concerned. I don't see how you couldn't. I mean, you've heard you, right?

[romanticidal]

Your confidence means much, carina. [ he looks out to the dance floor, and then back towards her with a warm smile, gesturing that way ] Would you care to--?

[slay]

[ her face brightens and she gives a broad smile, nodding enthusiastically. ]

I care. I very very care. [ she slips one hand into his and moves to the dance floor with him. ]

[romanticidal]

he smoothly draws her out into the crowd with a smile, looking around at the others dancing with friends and people who might as well be family at this point. he draws a few looks as an unfamiliar face, but it doesn't see off putting to him, and he picks a spot right in the middle of the floor to turn to her and slide a hand around her waist.

[ buffy isn't terrible. she manages to follow his lead fairly well, and only gets stuck stumbling after him because she can't keep up once (dance 14). however, she's too focused on the dance to be able to do much talking during it, lest she break her concentration. ]

[romanticidal]

[ with a 30 check, it's clear that he's used to this, and trained in it, and loves it, and the smile on his face attests to the fact. ]

Did I see Kat had made you a cake, earlier?

[slay]

I dunno, did you see? [ she gives him a lopsided grin, but then nods. ] Right outta thin air. I'll give magic this much, it's way handy for partying.

[romanticidal]

I suppose there must be consolation for losing so many nights of sleep to long hours of studying old books, si?

[slay]

And, as consolation prizes go, cake? Always a winner.
