Unlike the grandiose nature of the squiring ceremony each Knight undergoes upon their initial entrance into the Knighthood, the graduation to Full Knight status takes place in a much more intimate affair, between the Knight, their mentor, invited friends, and the members of the sect to which they will be inducted. There's no pompous music, no stolid rank and file, no elaborate march.

Buffy's invitees are given seats of honor at the front of the ranks of the Dragon's Hide members - the largest sect in the castle, with the most representatives here, and Jack, Wynn, and Dovan wait up at the front of the room for Buffy to approach them, but the attitude of the ceremony is much more relaxed, full of smiles and light conversation on all sides.

Wynn finally gets things rolling, by saying in his loud listen-to-me voice: "Approach and kneel, Sir Buffy Summers."

[She smiles, just glad that her gift is so well received.] I hoped you'd like it. [After a little mother-daughter moment, she glances around.]

I always forget the Dragon's Hide is so large. [Her own sect seems much smaller by comparison.]

[slay]

From what I hear, it's supposed to be the biggest sect.

[witchwoman]

I'd believe that, without question. [She peers are the unfamiliar faces.] Are you nervous? Meeting so many people?

[slay]

A little. But, it's not so bad. I mean, I know Fred, and I've got other friends in it - Mark, for instance. [ not spike. ]

[witchwoman]

[Between her conversation with Spike earlier and now this? Myri is having all the warning bells going off. The thing is... for as close as she is with Spike, she feels more at ease talking to Buffy, so she's not as uneasy about bringing up something potentially uncomfortable.]

Has something happened? Both you and Spike have been acting... odd lately.

[slay]

What?

[ it catches buffy genuinely off-guard at first, and she wants to answer honestly. she wants to break down and divulge everything and admit how hard it is to do what she's done but that she'd rather make it a clean break than continue to hurt him more because he'll keep loving her and she'll take advantage of that again otherwise. it's not fair to him.

but, myri's opinion of buffy is too high. she respects her, looks up to her, cares about her. myri's like her little sister, someone buffy has to look out for, someone that she has to protect from things like - well, things like this. she shakes her head. ]

Me and Spike? Spike. And me. Uh-uh. Nothing going on there, guaranteed.

[witchwoman]

[Myri's sense motive is a whopping 11 so unless Buffy botched a bluff, Myri just sort of squints and then shrugs, believing in it like a guard in Metal Gear seeing a random ass box on the ground that seems to be slowly creeping around the corner.]

Oh... He seemed upset, but wouldn't say why. I must have been mistaken.

[slay]

[ yeah i rolled a 13 so i'm not even adding her bonus SUCCESSFUL BLUFF. ]

You know Spike. Always upset about something or another. I wonder if being a vampire just automatically make you better at brooding. [ they get a +5 to all brood checks as long as they're wearing black. ]

[witchwoman]

[She does a poor job at covering a laugh at her comment about brooding.] Perhaps... I just worry about him. [And everyone else. Whoops.] But I don't want to put a shadow on your big day with my fretting.

[slay]

Is he - I mean, he's not ... not doing anything extra worthy of worrying, right? He's okay? [ the concern is evident there now, now that she doesn't have to worry about giving too much away, now that it's myri and no one else. ]

[witchwoman]

Not really. I think he just might have been... brooding. [Because that word works best for it.] Though I'm not sure what over.

[slay]

[ she looks down, considering this, feeling apparent guilt, and then just shakes it off and looks away. ]

I'm sure he's fine. Just overdramatic.

[witchwoman]

[See? Myri knows that Buffy cares, but she just assumes that now Buffy is worrying about him like she was.]

You're probably right. Or maybe he's jealous that you're getting all the attention in the sect. [That part's a joke.]

[slay]

More likely, he's jealous that the whole sect's giving me attention. Fine distinction, I know, but ... [ it's not that he's jealous of the attention, it's that he's jealous about her. because he wants to be the one giving it to her, dancing with her. if only he knew how much rafael wasn't ever going to happen. he'd probably rejoice. she'd probably cry. ]

[witchwoman]

[Myri just tilts her head, because she doesn't really understand that distinction, but she doesn't like much how focused they are on Spike's bad mood when it's Buffy's big day. She loops her arm through Buffy's and tugs her along.]

Let's go get a drink. Introduce me to some of your new friends.
