It's totally not a date. You can tell, because a guy in a suit is actually being caught dead in a place called The Giraffe, because it seemed reasonably low-key enough for dinner and a nice chat about... trying to reverse the effects of the Veil. Yeah. But totally not a date.

Hamburgers are ordered. Chatting has commenced. Awesome.]

To be honest, I've started filling in the gaps in my memories with whatever I decide feels right at the time. It's quite effective until someone comes along who remembers more than I do and contradicts it. Though that's only happened once and I think I came out of the situation better than one might expect.

FAYE |

[As soon as Gold gets back from his meeting with Nessa, he leaves Faye a mesage to meet him in the library. The minute she arrives, he's waiting with Milah, who is currently sprawled out underneath a table- she's only as long as the length of the table, but still. CROCODILE UNDER A TABLE.]

I'm sure you're wondering why on earth I'd think to conduct a magic lesson in the library. Seems like an accident waiting to happen, doesn't it?

(A. THE HALLWAYS. On his way back to his room. This is totally an excuse to maybe accidentally force someone into seeing his abomination of a room. idc.

(B. THE RECEPTIONIST DESK. Because I'm too lazy to throw him at the actual one and you know everyone wants to listen to his sexy Scottish accent answering phones all day.

Both locations will probably also contain (1) six foot long yellow crocodile.]

Luckily I was home schooled. [Look. She's a little caught off guard by the crocodile in the hall.] Which is why I spotted that she's a crocodile and not an alligator and didn't insult you pet's delicate sensibilities.

Well, thank you for that, but she's a familiar, so I'm certain she's fairly put-off being called a pet. Just so you know.

[Grin.] And you must be one of the newer squires.

[What the heck is a familiar? You know what, she can figure it out later.]

They all have that look about them. I will give you this- you're less confused than most. Either the Veil was surprisingly kind to you or this world's not much different from your own- either option tends to make for disoriented squires for the first several months.

Probably both, actually. Although my world is freakishly similar to this one. I didn't actually realize what happened until I tried to phone home and no dice.

[And her memory loss is insidious, she doesn't realize the scope of what she's missing until she's forced to think about it.]

I was in a similar situation, although I find it's hard to reconcile going to bed in Maine and waking up in Manhattan.

[The Veil loves irony, apparently.]

Yeah, that might throw someone a bit.

[Maine, huh. She's pretty sure it's not so small a state that everyone knows everyone else, but that's two people in one castle that she knows are from Maine. Curious.]

Did your familiar come with? [Oh! Familiar. Like Salem from Sabrina. Got it. Does that make him a witch? Also curious.] 'cause I wasn't aware that crocodiles were native to Maine's climate.

They're not native to London's climate either. As part of my training here, I had the option of obtaining a familiar. I chose to summon one and Milah was the end result. [The crocodile looks pleased with herself. Of course, crocodiles always look pleased with themselves. They're creepy like that.]

So she's like a physical manifestation of your magic?

[Crocodile's are cool (get it) and she smiles at it, because she's never met a crocodile before. But it makes her miss Cerberus. Now if someone could summon a three headed poodle from the Roman underworld that would just be swell.]

Something like that, yes, which I'm certain says a great deal about me. [Wiiith a touch of irony. He ain't an idiot. He knows damn well the implications of a crocodile, regardless of their ~deeper meaning~ in his life. Most people don't know that.

But hey, she seems to appreciate it.] Although you might be one of the first squires who hasn't been afraid of her upon seeing her for the first time.

My dog has three heads. A magic crocodile isn't the strangest thing I've ever seen. [Shrug, it is what it is.] Plus I've wanted to see Crocodilopolis since I learned how to pronounce it.

Indeed. And I'm certain the story of how a young girl happened upon a mythical creature said to guard the underworld is an interesting story.

Not actually that interesting, really. Family pet, I cried until my Mom said I could call him mine.

That must be some family. [Yeah, look he's a little bewildered. If he knew he was Rumplestiltskin, he'd call that normal. What? People don't keep three-headed dogs as pets? Rude.]

I am starting to get that that is the common feeling.

Well, I'm just a pawnbroker from Maine. [ahahahaha.] Even finding out I had the capacity for magic at all came as a big surprise for me.

Ah. [That's apparently enough mouth movement to expose the fact that he has one freakin' gold tooth. Thanks, Violet. At least he's... sort of amused by it.] I will, however, try not to take the blatant stereotyping of my profession personally.

[Wow, look she meant like twelve, or maybe a grill. But she has the manners to look chagrined. Amused as all get out, sorry, but still chagrined.]
