It's only a few hour plane ride from England to Italy, but the team has a little time to settle in and get to know each other and/or ask questions of Zee in preparation for meeting with her dad.

And of course, when they arrive, she takes the lead, bringing them through the streets of Florence, Italy at night and leading them around the door of a sold out theater advertisement for the Amazing Zatara.

I- I don't know what put the idea into your head, but your mother died years ago. We should not sully her memory with these macabre accusations. [ his eyes scan the rest of them briefly, as if he's trying to calculate what their role in all this is ] I'm sure your... friends here would agree with that.

[Gold shoots Emma a "gurl what is wrong with you" look, but he got a 17 on his sense motive check, so he's pretty suspicious right now.]

And the girl's dreams mean nothing? [He turns back to Giovanni.] With all due respect, we did come a long way. And the subject might be painful for both of you to deal with, but I trust you realize it will be much more painful if you continue to lie to her. You see, lies have a tendency to come out when you least want them to. So better she hears the truth now- whatever that truth might be.

[ damn gold, you and your way with words. zatara looks struck, paling entirely and then looking down, a heavy sadness working into his features as his brows collide. ]

You don't understand what you're asking. But he's right... if I know you, you'll only head off to find her on your own if I don't tell you anything.

[ he raises his head and looks at his daughter, sadly ] Your mother's alive, yes. Her death - the accident - was a lie we constructed before she left, to spare you the pain of knowing you would never see her again. [ zee's face reflects the complicated emotions this confession elicits, as she looks torn between relief at her mother being alive, and a sense of betrayal at the lies woven around her since youth ] Sindella was a very singular woman, and her people... were looking for her.

They were too dangerous to be allowed to come anywhere near the thing she held dearest in the world -- you, Zatanna.

[uncease]

[Charming feels a tug in his chest at the exchange. His gaze drifts briefly to Emma before he focuses back on the task at hand.]

Is there any reason why she would reach out to your daughter? If it was all meant to protect her, why would she risk that?

Maybe because those dangerous people found her, and she needs help. [ she's going to gloss right over her being wrong yep. ]

[ its zatanna who speaks, her words sliding out as if she can't hold them in any longer ] And she's in greater danger than she ever expected to be.

If that's the case, father, you have to tell me.

[amazingzatara]

[ the older magician shakes his head immediately, refuting some part of that ] You didn't know her, Zatanna. [ the reminder is gentle, at least, rather than a blunt counter ] She would have died rather than allow you to be placed at risk.

No, it's much more likely that she wished to contact me, but was unable to. I've take great precautions since my return to keep my whereabouts warded at most times...

[ he squares his shoulders and looks up, replacing the top hat on his head ] I'm the one who must find Sindella, and help her, if I can.

[uncurse]

All due respect, [ emma prefaces in a tone that makes it clear she's not actually giving a lot of respect and there's nothing remotely respectful in what's about to follow, ] But whether she meant it for you or not, you're not the one who got the distress call broadcast into your head. I think if Zatanna wants to follow up on this, that's her call to make - not yours.

You lied to her. You and Sindella both - but it's out now, and there's not much point to trying to keep her out of it anymore. [ diplomacy 15 ]

[ well you almost succeeded emma so i guess you're WEARING HIM DOWN?? ] Zatanna won't get far without my help.

[uncurse]

[ diplomacy 22 yep she's still going. ]

Then, help. Don't tell her what she can and can't do, she's in this whether either of you like it or not.

[Doplomacy 27. You just got OVERKILLED with diplomacy, bro.]

Consider it a way for the both of you to reunite your family once and for all.

[Yeah, Hook's good at being charming, not so much at... actual diplomacy, so he'll just stand here looking not as threatening as he'd like (intimidate 9) while playing with his hook pointedly.]

[ he seems to realize that he's both outnumbered... and out-reasoned, and his shoulders slump as he sighs ]


... Then I suppose my only recourse is to travel with you. [ he hesitates a moment, then looks over them all ] Come with me. [ he heads in the direction of his dressing room door ]

[ zatanna stares there smiling after him when he turns around for a moment, before glancing at gold and emma and mouthing 'thank you'. ]

[ emma returns the smile with a thin one of her own, then looks to the others to confirm that they should follow as well or if he was just inviting zatanna. she makes the executive decision and does so. ]

[uncease]

[Wherever Emma is going, Charming is just going to follow. Clearly she and Gold are fine to talk this guy into just about anything. He's not really sure how he feels about that, but he's glad that they're making some progress.]

[Hook's curious enough to follow as well. He wants to see how it all plays out.]

[ those who are coming along are led a narrow door that opens into a dressing room that's far more extravagant inside than one would guess from the hall. zatara heads immediately for an old dusty trunk pushed up against the wall, handing his hat back to one of them for safe keeping as he moves to open the locks carefully. ]

When I left to save you from the curse, I made certain to take a certain heirloom with me, just in case you should get it into your head to use it to find your dear old dad. [ he lifts the lid, revealing a magician's trunk with neatly folded clothes, brightly colored scarves, and other tools of the trade. he lifts out some of the clothes and pulls out a small box. ] It should serve us purposes now, however, in locating Sindella.

Clothes? Clothes are supposed to help us find your wife? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm just no seeing how a trip down magician memory lane is getting us anywhere.

[Gold leans over to just casually whisper and point. (Wis check 19)] I believe he means the box.
