The Knights split up, Tia taking Rose, Dimitri, and Amrita in the rented vehicle towards two of the more distant sites from the hotel, while Eric leads Aurelius and Lila through the back alleys of the city to somewhere nearby. It's late by now, and Chicago is alive with the sights and sounds of nighttime in the distance. A light rain falls, dripping off the overhangs of the roofs above and pooling against the sidewalks.

[ the half-elf hesitates a moment, before awkwardly sliiiding off his stool and slipping over beside rose, looking somewhat chastised. dean looks between the two before indicating aurelius with a nod of his head and asking rose: ] This guy's a hunter? [ the incredulity actually seems pretty well placed with the two standing right next to each other. while rose exudes a definite sense of confidence and control, aurelius looks not only entirely uncomfortable in this bar, but, well, all sorts of awkward. ]

We have scattered information from investigating the crime scenes and speaking with the bartender. We were hoping we could compare notes.

[Diplomacy 23. Apparently Dimitri is going to fucking try his hardest to salvage the fuck out of this conversation.]

We've investigated the crime scenes. Each of them were marked with a symbol, which could either be a calling card, a framing attempt, or maybe even a red herring. We're trying to figure out which is the most likely.

Let's see it. [ he doesn't give any comment on his speculation, just reaches out a hand ]

[He hands him the napkin that Lila drew on earlier.]

A few names have been tossed around in regard to that symbol. Illsensine. The Mind Flayers. The Corsone Syndicate.

[ he doesn't say anything about that, but does slide the napkin back after studying it ] What have you guys heard about this prophecy?

[Rose appears mildly irritated at first, having already made up her mind not to play nice with Captain Flannel but when he mentions some prophecy, he has her attention, head canting to one side as for once, she drops the attitude.]

What prophecy?

You really are outta the loop. Some Oracle has a vision about the "ultimate monster" showin up in Chicago, hunters went nuts. They've been turning up in droves - and getting axed just as quick.

[likeagod]

A monster could be any number of things. [A beat.] There's been no one who has seen what's been killing these hunters, or are they truly all dead?

[Usually, eventually, someone escapes to tell about it.]

[littledhampir]

An Oracle?! [Why yes, the half Vampire was in fact a sceptic. Go figure. She's just going to roll her eyes, fold her arms across her chest and wait for something that actually catches her interest... that or another opportunity to make a wisecrack at Boozy McFlannel.]

[ he throws rose a Look ] What, you never get on board with Miss Cleo back in the day? [ and back to dimitri ] Some do, but stories are mixed about what it is. But you gotta understand, this city's always crawlin' with monsters. Odds are they just think it was the big one, because whatever it was almost mauled their face off.

And most of those monsters? Work for the Syndicate. You can bet your ass they're not happy about all these hunters moving into town.

So we're not just dealing with a monster in the end anyway. We're dealing with an organization.

[Because even if they find the person committing the murders, they won't stop.]

Speaking in the Godfather sense of the word, if you get my gist. Corsone's boys see all these hunters coming onto their territory, you better believe they're gonna strike back. Half of these deaths being reported are likely to be blowback from his crew, not this 'monster'.

[littledhampir]

[And now Rose is just going to stand there and look smug because she'd already jumped to that conclusion earlier. Dammit. Where was Lila when she wanted somebody to be smug at!

Oh wait! McFlannel was still there.]

Yeah yeah. Tell us something I hadn't already worked out.

[It has been written that Rose shall automatically crit fail where Boozy McFlannel is concerned. Amen.]
