The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ Second drink in, and Dawn's feeling a little less bashful. Not enough that she doesn't blush at the compliment (and holy hell that Charisma roll.) ]

I totally got lucky that no one else saw it before me. [ She can't help but play with the skirt a little. ] It really is nice, isn't it?

Nice? I'm pretty sure you're the light of the party.

[There is never a time when compliments haven't been a useful strategy for Alec and he isn't going to stop, now. Of course this is before he bumped into Anastacia. Even if it had been after, he would have still said the same.]

I think it may take me some time to get used to calling such beautiful women, sir, but I'm going to attempt to give it a go.

[Seriously. Look at that smile. He needs to stop.]

The light of the-- [ Wow. Wow wow. She may not remember very much, but she always has this distinct feeling of being... well, overlooked. For other women who are prettier than her. Her brain shuts down a little, though she is still listening. Beautiful women. The sir thing.

His name. She finally snaps out of it. ]

Yeah, I remember from the.. the, uh. [ There's a vague pointing gesture. ] The ceremony. I'm Dawn. [ She offers her hand to shake. Cause that's a thing to do, right? ]

[fallencrest]

[Oh, two for one on things Alec does not want. Reminders of the ceremony and handshakes. It's not like he can escape either forever, he just wishes he could. ]

Like the start of a new day?

[He avoids the handshake the same way he will later, which is going to get awkward the first time any males try to shake his hand, but he'll cross that bridge when he gets to it.

He takes her hand and kisses the back of it with a playful, almost teasing grin and a wink.]

[Oh how many people will falsely believe he is a gentleman after tonight.]

[ She has plenty of reason of her own for not wanting to remember the ceremony. The whole falling over thing. But she's trying to put it behind her. ] Well, hopefully, it wasn't supposed to be after Don Johnson, cause that would be awkward.

[ He kisses her hand and w o w is that fancy. Definitely edging to the gentleman column there, sir. ]

[What a cute girl. He flashes her another smile when he lets go of her hand.]

Are you enjoying it all so far. This party, I mean. You should try the food if you haven't. I had some earlier. It's very high class. Or something along those lines.

[ She smiles as well, though it's nearing that stupidly pleased grin stage. ]

It's nice. I mean, it's probably the fanciest party I've ever been at. [ Not that she has a lot to judge by, given her memory only goes back about a month or so. ] I haven't eaten. I've just been kinda -- [ Jiggles the half-empty glass. ] Though I probably should.

[fallencrest]

[It's the fanciest party he's ever been invited to join. He laughs at the comment and nods his head to a table of food.]

Seriously, you have to try it. Besides, too much of that stuff on an empty stomach you'll be hating life in the morning.

[ Oh, hey, there's the food. ]

There isn't anything weird, right? I mean, I've heard of some weird fancy rich food stuff. Like fish eggs and snails and ugh. [ Trying to imagine what that stuff would taste like gives her a bad taste in her mouth. So she finishes off her drink. ]

[fallencrest]

[he laughs again and shakes his head. Food is food for him, but he can understand her reluctance.]

I am sure there is plenty of normal food around.

Okay, good. [ There's a small look of relief. ] Not that I'm a super picky eater. It's just... I think I've had my fill of unexpected things for the year. Or for two.

[fallencrest]

Not a fan of surprises?

[He starts making his way toward the food with the expectation that she is going to follow.]

[ It's a good expectation. She does follow him, trying to move right behind him so she doesn't have to ask people to move a second time. ]

As of recently? Not so much.

[fallencrest]

That's a shame, but an understandable one.

[He winks at her over his shoulder when they reach food, picking up a few things he had tried earlier that were, in his opinion, normal-ish, setting them on a plate and offering it over to her as he grabs another glass of alcohol for himself.

Who needs a liver.]

Give those a try. If you don't like them, I'll make it up to you.

[Raid the kitchen and make her a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.]

I'm sure I'll get over it. Or maybe I'll forget it.

[ She takes the offered plate, surveying the contents. Okay, so maybe she had overestimated things. Or worried needlessly, cause it all looks pretty normal. She takes a bite of a few different things. It's good. Dawn nods, giving him a thumbs up while she tries to finish the mouthful she has. ]

Good company, alcohol, and food. This party has three good things now.

Now if we could just fix the music and the atmosphere we would have a real party going on.

[he drinks from the glass and glances around at the company they're in.]

Not what I pictured when they said 'after-party'.

I think I heard someone threatening to fix the music earlier.

[ A blonde woman she passed on her way in. Dawn's much hungrier than she'd thought, and the plate is emptied in short order. She chases it with another drink. ]

What were you picturing?

Well, you know, a party. Dancing, loud music, too much alcohol. Granted it was a crazy assumption considering who was hosting it, but I can dream.

[He almost misses the raves that used to make him turn tail with their noise.]

This works alright.

There could always be an after-after-party.

[ At least, she assumes there could be. As long as they didn't completely trash the place or break things or ..IDK streak through the place, it should be alright? ]

I've sort of been running with the idea there will be. I heard there was a bar in this castle, among other things.

That, and I don't think I will be able to key down that fast when this one ends.

Other things? [ Well, that's vague. And interesting enough to pique her curiosity. ]

Yeah, I usually stay up part of the night. Kinda like a habit.

I've always been a bit nocturnal. The night makes me restless.

[More accurate than she could know. He clears his throat and gives a bit of a shrug.]

That and I want to explore the layout a bit.

[ She nods. Restless is a good way to describe things. ]

This place is pretty huge.

I'm still betting on there being secret passages all over this place. I mean, come on. Castle.

You're not wrong there. I'm willing to bet it meets all the castle cliches. Secret bookcase passageway. Paintings with eyeholes so you can spy on people.
