after-party ♔ may

♬ Jeux d'eau - Ravel
WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (brazil & nevada groups will be returned! if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || May 1st, 2013, 6:00PM
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam
The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.
Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.
Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

My skill? Oh, it's not much, really. A curious niche sort of magic. It's useful in some regards [Like magically fortifying his outfits at these parties] Wynn seems to think it's an asset, anyway - so here I am.
But you... [He muses, sipping his drink, and walking a sort of half-circle about her, looking her over] Yes there's no doubt about it. Your talent is that you can stop time, right? Because I'm sure it's standing still right now. [He pulls his phone out to check the clock.]
[All this smooth-talking probably warrants a Cha roll... Yep. That's a 1. Phineas. You had ONE JOB. Feel free to ignore his terrible fawning and flattery. All of the Charisma - None of the actual luck with women.]

But things take an awkward turn. He's nice, but with this line, it's really cheesy and overstrong on the flirting. He checks his phone and she becomes very very interested in her drink. Oh look, bubbles. Champagne has bubbles, who knew.
She smiles, even if her previous look was discouraging. ] I wish I could stop time. But no, it's mostly dead languages and a vague sense of 'you have a greater purpose'.
no subject
Dead languages? You don't say? I've got some texts I may need to show you some day... [His demeanor seems to change rapidly, taking on a business-like air] once we've become more well-acquainted, perhaps.
I wonder if you'll be able to make any sense of them, being Faerunian in origin - but with how much seems to bleed over into this world, who knows...
[Suddenly aware that he's being a bit too serious-toned for a party, he clears his throat, and sips his drink.]
What, uh... what type of work do you do, which requires studying dead languages?
no subject
I, uh. Um. I was what they called a Slayer. Vampires, demons, pretty much whatever went bump in the night, I took care of it. Like -- [ She makes a quick stabbing motion. ] ...took care of.
no subject
[His brain then processes the rest of her statement]
...
...You slay demons?
[A look of concern crosses his face]
no subject
And then she sees that look. ]
Oh. Oh! Not all demons. Just ones that, you know, terrorized and killed people and I kinda don't do it anymore. I seem to have lost more than just memories when I came through the Veil.
no subject
Oh, I see...
Well... I've never done anything so exciting as slaying demons. I'm just a mage and a researcher. [He raises his glass and takes a drink]

I get the feeling I'll be spending most of my off-time for the next several months doing research in the library to get used to the history of this world.

Lucky you, this place is so very different from my world... much more advanced, I suppose, in some ways.
[He glances at her]
And, of course, the women are much more stunning here.
[He takes another drink]
no subject
In what ways? When you say advanced.
no subject
For example, my people have many magical and supernatural ways to fly... but... none so torturous as these air-ships this world has.
[He grimaces at the though of planes... No planes ever again. (If only he knew...)]
[Then his countenance breaks with a smile, and he rolls back into a lighthearted kind of tone.] And, of course, the women back home only wish they could compare with the radiance of present company. Blessed are they, in their ignorance.
[And, smirking, he takes another sip from his chalice.]
no subject
And then comes the compliment. Trying not to blush, trying... and failing. ] Well, all the better for you, then, right? [ She's trying to be confident and smooth (cha 14). ]

[The ice shifts in his glass, and he thinks for a moment, before adding;]
...That's a depressing sort of thing to say, I suppose. And, potentially not entirely accurate. I just... can't seem to remember anything all that great about it. For my sake, I hope it wasn't all as bad as the bit's I've got left.
[He smiles, and takes another drink.]
How's about yourself? You seem to remember quite a bit...
