The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

[ Dawn steps back, still grinning. ] Right? Oh god, I would be constantly confused. And I promise, I am usually a little more graceful than I was earlier.

Oh, don't worry about that! Happens all the time. And I'm hardly one to talk about graceful, myself. It seems I'm always tipping things over or... setting fire to the laboratory...

[ She probably shouldn't smile at that, but she does. ] Yeah, ever since I got here, I-- I mean, not here [ Pointing at the floor. ], but here [ With a sweeping gesture, meaning the world in general. ], I kinda feel off.

May I... ask, if it isn't terribly rude, how long it's been since --?

Since I got here? Um, let's see. Like a month? Yeah, that sounds about right.

I imagine things are still very disorientating.

It's not too bad. I mean, it's weird. I only really have, like, this handful of memories and stuff, but aside from kinda freaking out when I got here, I've been okay.

[rationalizes]

That's actually one of the more fascinating aspects of the transference process - and theoretically might be part of the reason for the loss of memories itself. It seems to be designed to make transitioning as simple as possible: Shadowkind's minds seem to quite readily pick up new languages in the area they arrive, with almost the capacity that children have for accumulating new linguistic skills.

So I might be able to pick up more languages and even faster than I had in the past? Neat.

For a short time, at least. It's usually for a period of adaptation - and doesn't last forever.
