It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Friday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Sir Luthir stands off to one side, all impassive elf, armored in his light, beautifully worked metal, and carrying a sword. Red-headed Sir Ironsides hefts an axe over his shoulder and offers a boisterous greeting to those approaching, and Fred helps round people up to the middle of the room.  

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

No apologies necessary. The proficiency section of the exam is simple: please demonstrate for me your skill by firing at the target.

[Alec follows the pair of them, listening with interest. This is something he needs as well, so he's trying to see what she does and figure out what he needs to do as well. He flicks the safety on to his gun, just in case.]

[She nods again, moving to collect a weapon, since that seems simple enough. She hadn't realized that she be put on the spot so quickly, but she might as well get it over with.

Time to try and hit this target. She flicks off the safety, lifts the weapon, fires and....nothing happens.

Looks like her gun jammed, and now she's blushing. Oops. (crit fail)]

[ luthir's expression remains impassive, and he reaches for the gun politely. with a few quick movements, he adjusts it, and hands it back. ] Once more.

[Sydney rolls her shoulders nervously, taking the gun back with another nod. She exhales to try and shake off the embarrassment before she pointedly aims and fires again, this time easily hitting the center of the target (ranged attack 19).]

Not bad at all. What's your experience with weaponry?

[celerystick]

[This is where her memory gets tricky.]

I know that my organization requires firearms training, but nothing beyond that. As for if I have any combat experience? I honestly don't know. I don't remember.

[luthir]

Your form speaks to training. How's your memory on safety procedures?

[celerystick]

There are three fundamental rules. Always point the gun in a safe direction, keep you finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot, and keep the gun unloaded when not in use.

It seems you're very well equipped to carry in the field already.

So I'm...good to go, then?

[That's a relief. That could have been so much worse.]

I'll let Sir Ironsides know you've been qualified to carry in the field.

[She smiles. Finally.]
