It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Friday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Sir Luthir stands off to one side, all impassive elf, armored in his light, beautifully worked metal, and carrying a sword. Red-headed Sir Ironsides hefts an axe over his shoulder and offers a boisterous greeting to those approaching, and Fred helps round people up to the middle of the room.  

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

Tour;

[ fred's a very normal looking guy, other than being pretty tall... and a 17+ spot check might notice that his dark eyes flash silver when the light hits them just right. ] Alright, so usual spiel. The armory's located through those back doors, and you can use your key card to get in there at anytime. Same for the firing range, through there. We've got almost anything you can imagine by way of arms or armor, and you can take what you want, and either claim it as your own or swap in and out for particular mission needs. Firearms are different: you've been issued an Excalibur, and it's yours to use up here on the range until one of us gives you the gold star to be field certified. Until then, don't go out packing on a mission.

This room is always open, and considering the Dragon's Hide is the biggest sect in the castle, there's almost always someone up here willing to spar or offer pointers. If you have any serious questions, you can go hunt down Dovan Ironsides, the section leader, in the Hide wing, which is down the back hall to the right when you get up the steps.

Accidents happen, even when we're all looking sharp, which I suggest you do since things can get pretty dicey up here when the pros are going at it, so the Med Center and Cleric wing are straight out across the hallway.

[ once they're done with the tour, the dwarf eagerly heads to the heavy doors at the back of the training room, slipping a keycard out of his armor somewhere and sliding it through the reader. the red light goes green and the doors depress, drawing back to reveal a room full of racks and racks of swords, maces, flails, morningstars, pikes, staffs, bows of all kinds, and more guns lining the walls in intimidating quantities. there's also plenty of armor, of both a modern and old-fashioned variety. dovan looks back at the squires excitedly. ] Who wants to find a good fit first, eh?

Melee;

[ once melee fighters have found a close quarters weapon of choice, fred directs them back out to the circles painted on the floor of the training room, and he draws his own sword as well, gesturing at the lines. ] Alright, time for some basic sparring. You can pair up, and pick a circle. Keep your fight confined in the bounds of the lines, and obviously play it safe and slow. The clerics are right across the hall, but they don't really like it when we send 'em a bunch of bleeding squires on day one. [ don't laugh... it's totally happened within the last year... ]

I'm here too, if anyone wants to pair up, and you can always spar with your mentor, if you brought them.

Firing Range (ranged weaponry);

Those who wish to practice ranged weaponry, guns included, come with me. [The elf glides to the doors of the firing range, unlocking those as well, and moving inside, after picking up a bow from by the wall.]

[Much as Alec is sure Melee and cumbersome swords work for some people, he's after Luthir the moment he speaks up. His melee strength is reserved for the darkness that lingers behind the human suit. He loads a clip into his gun as he follows, glad to hear bows aren't the only thing fit for that. His crossbow works fine, but the heavy weight of metal in his hands feels more natural.]

Is this place open all the time?

[Alec doesn't like the sound of the arms spiel at all. Soon as Fred is done there's a short nod from him and his hand rests in the pocket closest to his gun out of habit.]

How do we get one of these gold stars.

Considering some of our residents keep nocturnal hours, all of our facilities operate at all hours.

[Felicity's not a fighter, not by trade. Sneaking around and charming her way out of things? That's more her style. However, she knows that this isn't always going to fly here, so she wants to try and get in as much training as she can.

She starts out with a quarter staff -- less likely to end in her chopping someone's arm off accidentally -- and glances around. Next step is finding partner, so she hangs back and sees who doesn't automatically shake out with a partner.]

Easiest route comes if you already have some kind of government certified training. Show us the certificate and we can hand one over.

[Sydney has followed after them as well, albeit silently, very happy to get away from the swords and the hack and slash items. She's more comfortable firing a gun, knows she was trained to do so, even if she's not used to carrying one.]

[Phineas has been looking forward to testing out how his pact with Leraje might work with these modern firearms. Good thing he can NEVER succeed any rolls. Today he looks sickly and yellow-greenish - diseased looking. His skin is pockmarked & sallow. He's also extremely silent, and looming more toward the back of the group. He's trying to play if off by just acting extremely hungover (Bluff DC 10... I thought you were good at lying, bro?]

[He just kind of nods, and slips along with this group, loading his Excalibur pistol for the first time as they go. Despite having never attempted to handle it previously, he intuitively knows how to wield it. Some supernatural knowledge bestowed by his companion walking him through the equipment...]

[Staring down the shooting range, he levels his pistol, and fires at the target. He activates his Ricochet Shot ability to see if it will work with these strange weapons. His first shot strikes a core shot with an attack of 17, then inexplicably bounces and strikes the next target over, though it just nicks nearby the target w/ an attack of 10.]

Yes... This will do well.

[ he turns to her, gesturing to the available array of bows and firearms ] Do you have a preference?

[Alaric decides to move out with the group headed toward the firing range for now. Needless to say, the whole nocturnal thing pings him even though he's not an active participant in the conversation. Of course he assumes it to mean vampires, but he figures it's probably best to play it ignorant for the time being.

When it comes time to choose weapons, he opts for a crossbow over the gun he'd been issued. He's got more experience with the former, and if they're going to be checking out weapons he wants to make sure to add one to his arsenal.]

I was told you're the guy to see when it comes to specialized ammunition.

[Welp, a quarterstaff isn't exactly his weapon of choice, but he'll make an exception in this particular situation. Somehow the idea of sparring her with a sword didn't seem very fair. Boy will he feel stupid if she turns out to be a staff wielding ninja.

He moves toward the circle where Felicity is standing, and flashes her a smile.]

[She's not, so at least there's that. And hey there pretty smile, you can totally spar with her.]

Not at all. Though I'll warn you I'm a little new at this.

[Klaus hangs back to watch, but he opts to sit this one out. After all, even unarmed, he has an unfair advantage over most of those present. And besides, he isn't exactly eager to give away all of his secrets so soon.]

I'm trained in several firearms. I'm most comfortable with semi-automatic pistols.

Have you received formal certification in any of those weapons?

Why, yes, yes! Step right in, laddie. What kind of ammunition are ye lookin' fer?

[ luthir moves down the line, nodding at his choice ] Have you discharged a crossbow before?

[He attempts to spin the staff in his hand in a showy manner, only to lose his grip and have it clatter to the floor (dex 7). Real smooth, right?]

I'm much more accustomed to a blade, myself.

Anti-vampire, mostly. [No sense beating around the bush about it, right?]

Back where I came from, there was a way to fire wooden rounds without them splintering to pieces before they ever had the chance to hit their mark. You wouldn't happen to have come up with something similar here, would you?

Discharged, modified, eventually built my own.

[He lifts the weapon to aim toward the target, and fires off a bolt that punctures just left of an intended kill shot through where the heart would have been (dex 15).

That done, he lowers the weapon and looks back toward Luthir.]

It might take some getting used to the standard model again, but I think I can handle it.
