In that case... [He unbuckles the complicated device that keeps his journal strapped onto him, and pulls his chalk out of the hollow in the back of the book, the begins skimming through pages...]

Let's see... oh. Here we are. Ronove. Oh, right... You're going to have to trust me on this - you'll really like this one... but I need to do this outside, in soil. Where's the best place?

We could take the back door out to the garden.

[Following her to the garden, he kneels in the soil and begins to trace the detailed seal]

This will be easier you to clean up, no chalk... Almost done... and, there.

Ronove, the Iron Maiden. Your disciple calls you back. Lend me your skills, your wisdom.

[]The ground begins to shake, and suddenly from within the seal bursts forth a rusted iron sarcophagus. It continues to grind upward, until it is nearly fully out of the ground, mostly plain save for a curious mocking female human visage on the head of the vessel. Just as it seems to be over, the seals down the front of the iron maiden break, allowing the door to swing open ever so slightly. From within slowly pours out a noisome black liquid, and a scattering of bones. The visage on the sarcophagus contorts into a smile.[]

[And the binding check... Of course, 10. That fails, have fun today Ronove.]

Well, Ronove. It's been a while. Hey, I'm in a bit of a rush, and your manifestation is hideous, so let's not dawdle. What say we forge an accord for the day? You can help me file papers?

[Ronove never speaks. The visage simply frowns or smiles. In this case, the visage contorts into a horrible frown, before the iron maiden hungrily gobbles the bones and slime back up, and grinds it's way back into the earth.]

[Phineas now has a frown frozen on his face]

My Charisma doesn't seem to work on anything in this world. [He pointedly stares at Lis'sa]

[ lis'sa takes one step backwards when the coffin breaks out of the ground, staring with raised eyebrows at the spectacle, until ronove vanishes once more. ] ... What was that thing?

[thesleeper]

That was Ronove... She was the first of the monks.

[He suddenly remembers something he saw on TV last night]

I believe you could also call her the predecessor to David Blaine. Except she never reappeared, because her faithful were impatient.

[Walking back to the office...]

[Phineas begins to use Ronove's Far Hand skill to telekinetically lift and sort the papers.]

They've gone from being the gentle digits of someone who's spent his days reading books, into the calloused weapons of a martial artist, complete with a faint supernatural magic aura. He also had gained some notable speed while walking back, from more than just excitement]

That would be correct, though additionally I'm burdened by some of her... personality, if you can call it that.

[He continues to absent-mindedly sort the papers around the room, from afar, before remembering that Ronove drives him to stupid lengths to seek praise, and that Lis'sa isn't typically the praising sort...]

[He high-jumps as far as he can and slow-falls to the ground. He'd probably smile, if he could.]

[ lis'sa suppresses a smile as she watches the display, folding her arms and tilting her head ] You know, this actually explains quite a few things about you.

I presume you mean apart from my rakish good looks, and boyish charm?

You're referring to the... personality influence? And the often lovely physical manifestations that accompany them?

Still, beats some of the alternatives. Amon makes me grow Ram's Horns - lugging an extra twenty pounds around your head all day isn't any fun, I'll tell you that.

So once you've made a deal, you can't back out for twenty-four hours or swap what you've bound yourself to, no matter what?

Well, there are some known... controversial ways to expel a vestige... But they're not party of my study. I like to honor my end of the agreement.

If I can forge a pact in my favor, I don't manifest a sign, and am less influenced by their personalities, but I've had a bad run since I crossed over.

So how often that we've actually talked have you just been... you?

That would be... [He thinks back...] Maybe the ten minutes or so after you found me in the desert? And, of course, just before this.

Fortunately Ronove doesn't do a terrible lot to influence my personality, compared to some... Naberius actually got me into quite the incident with the group at the old 2nd floor pub a few days ago. He, uh... well, he forces me to make random impassioned speeches in public settings, and they were swapping tales... It didn't turn out well.

[ she looks... like that's pretty funny ] I'm surprised you walked away in one piece.

[thesleeper]

That makes two of us. Kind of a hard one for me to explain away now, though.

Maybe you should try blaming it on a shapeshifter. Too bad we don't have any in residence right now.

[The mention of shape-changing reminded him of his Wynn impression... Phineas would smile, if he could right now.]

That's a notion. At any rate, this run of bad luck with the pacts is starting to annoy me.
