[ Today's the fourth of July, and the city is bustling with happy, smiling citizens on their way to watch fireworks tonight with their loved ones. And then there's the Corvette of people sailing through traffic with almost desperate abandon, as Des steers his way through the city with a basically heartwrenching nat 20 drive check towards the hospital. Rafael lets Violet sit on his lap in the passenger bucket seat, but he doesn't say a word as he stares forward grimly, lost inside his thoughts entirely the whole way there.

They make startling time. There's another car of Knights on the way, but lagging quite a bit behind by the time Des pulls into a spot right up front. ]

Her necklace? [ he looks oblivious to the significance of all this hullabaloo ] And you do not wish to?

[graveflowers]

Yeah, you missed a lot when you missed story time. [She pauses, head tilted just so as she... eavesdrops. Sorry not sorry. (Listen 22) Surprisingly she makes herself stop, even though she wants to hear what is going on.]

Anyway it's just a reminder, a physical one that this happened, the good bits especially. I want a reminder.

[romanticidal]

... Si. I cannot blame you for this. But if it is her desire...

[graveflowers]

I know. [She sighs softly, slumping against the doorframe.] I can at least think about being selfish, even if I won't go through with it.

[She pauses to peer at him, worry and concern replacing some of the sorrow and grief on her expression.] How you holding up?

[romanticidal]

[ well, now that you put him on the spot, congrats, the tears rise in his eyes again. ] ... I would not say that I am.

[graveflowers]

You don't have to. This isn't something you have to be able to handle, if you want to not be able to handle it... just don't. [She doesn't move to offer physical comfort though it's her first instinct, because he hasn't said it's anything he wants. Not from her, they're still practically strangers.] I'll handle it for you, everything.

[romanticidal]

[ doesn't say anything to you, just... looks at the door ] What do you think they are speaking of so long?

[graveflowers]

She has both memories to reconcile. You've known each other so long it makes it easier to understand each other. She doesn't have that with Des.

[romanticidal]

[ well... screw you and your logic, vi, that makes too much sense. :| his expression clouds. ] ... No one told me. About them. Perhaps I should have known it.

[graveflowers]

Maybe you didn't want to see it. Would you have been able to do it? If you knew that the girl with no memories loved him? You said that you wanted her to be happy, even if it wasn't with you. Would you have been able to take that away from her?

[romanticidal]

If he truly made her happy? [ there's hardly a pause at all, although it's clear he wishes he could say anything else and he sounds miserable about it. ] No. I could have never taken that from her.

[graveflowers]

[And that right there is why Violet will always, always, be on his side.]

It's better, that you didn't know. She needed her memories back. [There is something unspoken there, if Jade was going to die she deserved to die whole. Just as much as she deserved to live whole.]

[romanticidal]

I could feel something wrong in her, something more than what she could not remember. All her light seemed dimmed.

[graveflowers]

She felt it, too. Like all the light was gone, and I know what that's like, and it's... people can't live like that, you just -- exist. You did the right thing, you saved her.

[romanticidal]

I killed her.

[graveflowers]

No. That man did, he put her in that position and she made a choice, to protect all of us. She made it knowing what could happen. [She pushes away from the door and moves forward slightly before she stops herself.] Rafael, it was an accident.

[romanticidal]

That does not change that I made the choice to pull the trigger.

[graveflowers]

And I made the choice to step forward and say I had the necklace. Everyone can blame themselves, but you shouldn't. The man that killed Jade is dead. And all you're doing by blaming yourself is dishonoring all the faith and trust she has in you.
