This isn't exactly a squiring after party. Lila's never been to a knighting (and the odds are not in her favor) but she doubts this party is much like it either. The invitation comes in the form of a mass text message sent the day before -- she doesn't care who gets it, its not as if Wynn is going to come to her party. A date, a time, a location, and the rules. She doesn't give a reason.

The rules are simple: dress up classy, don't bring a gift, and wear a mask. It's a masquerade, after all, a mask is a prerequisite. Lila is even so kind as to provide them, a porcelain bowl perched on a chair by the door holds an array; running the gamut from Phantom of the Opera white to classic Venetian blue and gold to Dia de los Muertos red and black. Anyone without a mask is subject to Lila's wrath.

The room is entirely lit by tea lights floating in small glass bowls, leaving long shadows across the walls, and strings of red fairy lights draped across doorways and windows. Music is playing somewhere, loud and dark, forcing you to press up against the person you're talking to. A table shoved against the wall is covered with bottles of fancy champagne, wine, expensive vodka and, the odd man out, pink lemonade. She and Faye might have gone a tad overboard with the alcohol. Blue plastic cups sit in a tottering pile off to the side, a jumble of colorful paper umbrellas dotting the free space on the desk. Another table holds a towering monstrosity of nibbles -- chocolates and tiny cream puffs, miniature Madeline cookies and delicate eclairs. Nothing to fill up on if you're worried about drinking on an empty stomach. Not her problem, she is obviously catering to the younger crowd here. Namely herself.

Lila is around, face half hidden by a simple lacy black mask. Her one blue eye and one green eye would be a dead giveaway if her scar didn't already make it perfectly clear who is behind the mask. She's not playing hostess, she had enough of that back home being Daddy's little darling. This is the first birthday party she has had in almost four years, but even determined to make the most of her experience, she remains at the fringes, drink in hand. The combination of pink lemonade and vodka makes her nostalgic.

Don't worry though, she has her gloves on.

Good yeah. Definitely good. You're setting the bar pretty high for birthday presents.

Good, I'd hate to have any competition.

Yeah, and even less likely, now.

Mmm. [ she closes her eyes as she leans back, even though... she isn't going to sleep. hmm. this could get awkward. maybe she just won't mention that bit? yeah. ]

[watchmaker]

[his wis roll says ... the thought has occurred to him. but he's trying to be aerosmith and not miss a thing, okay. sleep is for losers. and he's still hanging in there.] So ... want to harass the staff into serving us room service this late? Or we could explore the hotel.

[bittersweeter]

Yes. Food. [ the way to her heart, tbh. ] I don't think there is much to explore in the hotel, maybe the pool, but I'm pretty sure bathing suits are required.

[watchmaker]

They have a bar, and a spa. And a wellness center, so yeah, pool. [THERE WERE PAMPHLETS DOWNSTAIRS NEXT TO THE ELEVATOR OK. DON'T JUDGE HIM.]

A spa? [ because they have champagne, she doesn't need to be near people to drink, ew people. and she's well. but the spa intrigues her. ] Do you think they have a sauna?

[watchmaker]

I don't know, probably. [he didn't actually ... read the pamphlets...] Why wouldn't they?

[bittersweeter]

I don't know. [ she didn't read the website. ] That seems fun. Well, you know, whatever the relaxing term for fun is.

[watchmaker]

I think they call that refreshing.

[bittersweeter]

Refreshing could be nice, but so could food. Food could be very nice.

[watchmaker]

What are you in the mood for?

[bittersweeter]

[ him. ]

French fries. [ SURPRISE! except its not... ] And cheeseburgers. Want to watch a movie?

[watchmaker]

Yeah, okay. That all sounds good to me. What do you want to watch?

[bittersweeter]

No idea. Why don't you order the food and I'll find something to watch?

[watchmaker]

On it.

[he kisses her on the forehead, then reaches alllll the way over to use the hotel phone. despite the current hella late hour, he manages to talk room service into serving them burgers and fries. (diplomacy 23) something may have been said about it being their honeymoon.......?????]

[ meanwhile lila's found the remote and is flipping through the channels to find something worth watching. she settles for sabrina because audrey hepburn and humphrey bogart. it was either that or hot fuzz and, sue her, she's a sucker for bogey's gruff masculinity, who knew. she quietly eavesdrops (listen 13) and just as calmly glances over, looking idly curious and amused. ]

Did you really just tell them we're married?

[watchmaker]

Hey, it worked. [s h r u g.] People have soft spots for newlyweds. Does it bother you?

[bittersweeter]

No. I guess I just never imagined myself the marrying type, even fictionally. What with being a teenage sociopath and all.

[watchmaker]

Teenage sociopath, adult sociopath, That practically makes us salt and pepper shakers. Not that I'm encouraging marriage right now.

[bittersweeter]

[ they're a matching set. lila hides her tiny smile by reaching over to put the remote back on the side table. ] Well, either way, you have to get the food since my lack of brand new ring will be more obvious than yours.
