This isn't exactly a squiring after party. Lila's never been to a knighting (and the odds are not in her favor) but she doubts this party is much like it either. The invitation comes in the form of a mass text message sent the day before -- she doesn't care who gets it, its not as if Wynn is going to come to her party. A date, a time, a location, and the rules. She doesn't give a reason.

The rules are simple: dress up classy, don't bring a gift, and wear a mask. It's a masquerade, after all, a mask is a prerequisite. Lila is even so kind as to provide them, a porcelain bowl perched on a chair by the door holds an array; running the gamut from Phantom of the Opera white to classic Venetian blue and gold to Dia de los Muertos red and black. Anyone without a mask is subject to Lila's wrath.

The room is entirely lit by tea lights floating in small glass bowls, leaving long shadows across the walls, and strings of red fairy lights draped across doorways and windows. Music is playing somewhere, loud and dark, forcing you to press up against the person you're talking to. A table shoved against the wall is covered with bottles of fancy champagne, wine, expensive vodka and, the odd man out, pink lemonade. She and Faye might have gone a tad overboard with the alcohol. Blue plastic cups sit in a tottering pile off to the side, a jumble of colorful paper umbrellas dotting the free space on the desk. Another table holds a towering monstrosity of nibbles -- chocolates and tiny cream puffs, miniature Madeline cookies and delicate eclairs. Nothing to fill up on if you're worried about drinking on an empty stomach. Not her problem, she is obviously catering to the younger crowd here. Namely herself.

Lila is around, face half hidden by a simple lacy black mask. Her one blue eye and one green eye would be a dead giveaway if her scar didn't already make it perfectly clear who is behind the mask. She's not playing hostess, she had enough of that back home being Daddy's little darling. This is the first birthday party she has had in almost four years, but even determined to make the most of her experience, she remains at the fringes, drink in hand. The combination of pink lemonade and vodka makes her nostalgic.

Don't worry though, she has her gloves on.

Well he is the party prince.

[Sorry Faye this is what happens when you're best (oh my god we are not even) friends with a really stellar liar.

But Harry will be free for the taking?]

[Satisfied, she hands over Lila's phone, already bored and grumpy that she hasn't met a prince.]

He said he's waiting for the next flight out. Could be a few hours.

[And he could he lying. She tucks the phone away.]

Whatever shall we do with our time...

[She checks her cup which- whoops is now empty.]

Birthday shots?

[Lila looks at Faye in appraisal.]

It's pretty rare, but its times like these I would be really annoyed if I killed you. [Which is Zacharov speak for yes, let's! Also let's be best friends.] You're pretty decent fun.

[ oh hey, guess who's walking in not that far away from where they stand, looking around skeptically at the festivities. he's obviously tried hard to take vi's fashion advice to heart, but the addition of the bowtie proves he has a long way to go. his mask is small and simple, making it very easy to identify him to those who know him.

he catches lila's eye and raises his eyebrows. ]

[If it isn't her most favorite half-elf! Looking... freaking adorable, god he is so precious. Does he just get exponentially more adorable? Probably.

She abandons the idea of shots for a second to greet him.] Oh it is my birthday, isn't it? Faye, come on. [She sidles up to him with a smile.] Hi Aurelius!

A bowtie? Really? [She trails a few steps behind Lila and offers her own less genuine smile.] Enjoying the party?

I don't know yet. I only just arrived. [ skeptical fais at faye, but then a smile for lila ] Happy birthday.

[Lila cuts Faye a glare and a meaningful look that basically reads back my play and I'll owe you one. She winds both her arms around one of Aurelius' and turns her smile on full force.]

You know what girls where I come from get on their birthdays? [She leans in to stage whisper.] Kisses. [And then she straightens up to add, cheerfully:] Right, Faye?

Really? [ he does, in fact, seem to entirely believe her and looks intrigued, although maybe not in the way most men would. ] Now that's a unique tradition.

[Faye is just in tune with her best frenemy okay (wis 17). She twists her mouth up in a smirk of a smile and nods with a matter-of-fact shrug.]

Totally. It would pretty much ruin the party if we didn't keep that tradition.

Well, I'd hate to shirk custom. [ and he leans over and gives lila the most polite little peck on the cheek ever. ]

That is not a birthday kiss. [She looks so insulted.]

No tongue means bad luck. [bluff 24 because this is important. also go big or go home.]

[ he looks so bewildered, as he blinks as faye's comment ] Whatever is that supposed to mean?

Oh for fuck's sake. This is how its done. [Using her grip on his arm, she holds him in place, disentangling one hand to press to his neck before she kisses him.

Don't worry, his French lessons can wait. She is taking her own birthday present, baby steps.]

[A short, hard burst of laughter comes from Faye because this is just all terribly amusing to her.]

Now it's a party.

[ poor aurelius never sees it coming. He flounders a moment in her grasp before half returning the kiss with the awkward air of someone with zero experience on the subject. When she pulls away finally, his eyes stay closed, eyebrows in his hairline, his lips comically protruding still as he hangs there in shock. ]

[Pat pat. No, literally, she pats his shoulder fondly as she releases him.]

Practice, that's what you need. [She flashes Faye a huge grin, this party is definitely looking up.]

[Faye rolls her eyes but it's with humor rather than annoyance. Girl, you have a prince on the way and you are making out with random elf boys.

You're her hero, tbh.]

If you two are done with your seven minutes in heaven? I think that vodka's calling my name.

[what song cue, what?]

[ meekly ] I, er, think I've fulfilled tradition.

Oh come on, I promise we won't try to kiss you again. [Pouty pout pout fais. It's her birthday!]

I don't think you tried much of anything...[ that was definite succeeding. ]

Now you're both trying my patience. Can we get drunk now? If he's got to get back to Santa's workshop or something, that's fine too.
