No. [She nods slowly in agreement.] But isn't there something to be said for pushing out of your comfort zone? If you cocoon yourself in the familiar for so long you'll stagnate, never changing, never growing. Shouldn't people be compelled to take risks and chances?

You do realize we go out and fight monsters and stuff, right? That's not daring enough for you?

Not even close. [But she's laughing so obviously she doesn't mean it and accepts his point.] I meant more... socially, but I see what you mean.

I guess we can only ask people to be so daring. Some arenas, they're on their own.

What about you, what arena are you on your own? [She looks at him a moment longer, curiosity and something else, interest, in her green eyes, before moving to look at another portrait.]

On my own's kinda my usual state, actually.

[She watches him over her shoulder for a while like she wants to say something but there is nothing to say.] I interrupted our history lesson. Who is this? [She points at the picture she's in front of.]

[ something seems to have shifted a bit in his demeanor and he shrugs, a part of him appearing to have shut down ] I don't know the whole string of 'em. Just the ones from this century, basically.

Suppose I could just read the labels, huh?

[ he nods way down the line to a certain portrait. ] Might not need to, for a few.

Is that... Are you saying that Benjamin Franklin was a knight?

[necessaryevil]

Not just a Knight. [ he gives a knowing glance up the row of those whose life story he'd been relating. ]

Wow. [Somehow that is more impressive to Lissa than the other stories, probably because she knows Franklin from history class and she can put those lessons toward imagining him with the knights.] I'm having difficulty deciding if l think he was in the Dragon's Hoard or the Dragon's Tongue.

The former. The only Dragon's Hoard member to ascend to Dragon's Claw, so far.

Guy did spend a lot of time in Europe playing 'ambassador' when he wasn't schmoozing up the ladies.

I guess him and Wynn were pretty good pals. As much as Wynn ever has pals. I kinda would have liked to see that.

I doubt the ladies were in short supply in France either. [YOU KNOW HOW THOSE FRENCH ARE.]

Imagine having had met him, what would you even say?

Well, we're in luck. Far as I know, he was human, and actually is dead, not Shadowkind in hiding.

See, somehow that doesn't seem very lucky to me. [She glances at the painting wistfully.] Maybe all I want in the world is Ben Franklin to call me pretty. All my dreams are dashed.

Well, he'd be dumb not to. If he weren't dead, I mean.
