[Sydney is reading Shakespeare, because she is the biggest nerd. Hamlet, if you want to get specific. She seems distracted, though, glancing out the window from time to time. Feel free to bother her.]

[What's with all these people reading on this trip??? Thoster will be plenty happy to bother the young girl, as he's still not given up on her warming up to him (not in a creepy way. he just likes friends).]

Have you been on one of these before, then? Missions, I mean.

[She looks up from her book, and it seems like it...takes her a moment to process words because books are engrossing okay.]

Oh, um, no. This is my first one.

Ahhhh! [He says, as if that explains everything.] Well, no need to be nervous, lass. It doesn't seem like it'll be much to worry about. Not like my last one.

[Wow, Thoster, that really doesn't help much.]

More of a large scale party than this one, and we had diplomats to deal with. A few party guests should be easy to fool.

You really shouldn't underestimate things like that. They wouldn't be sending us if it were going to be that easy.

And you shouldn't worry so much. You're too young to be working so hard to get wrinkles.

Wrinkles are the result of natural aging processes, not working hard.

[As she lightly waves her Shakespeare book in her hand.]

Hmm.. [He makes a small noise, not really believing her.]

So that's a pretty mark you've got there. [He gestures to her cheek.] Remember what's for?

[She nods.]

I do. It marks me as an Alchemist. We protect humans from supernatural aspects in my world, namely Vampire society.

[bluffcheck]

[He was not expecting that. But since he's learned a bit about Lissa, he's not completely baffled by the vampire part.]

Protect them how? Some sort of magic?

We have to keep them apart. If humans knew vampires existed...

[She shakes her head, because she's learned since coming here that things are different than what she knew.]

I grew up being taught that humans and vampires needed to be kept apart, for their safety. Their co-existence wasn't natural. So we...took steps to hide them. False police reports and autopsies, chemical compounds to make their corpses decompose rapidly, that kind of thing.

Well, this one knows. [He puts a hand to his chest.] Are you going to have to do something about that?

[She shakes her head.]

Things are different here. The tattoo is supposed to compel me not to tell people that shouldn't or don't already know, and it...hasn't.

[Now that's interesting. Thoster tilts his head a bit.]

Have you talked to Wynn about it? Might be that he knows a bit about that sort of magic.

No, but why would I want that here? To not be able to speak about what I want?

[The longer she's here, the more freeing it is to not be weighed down by it.]

Well, no- but don't you wonder if it might... go off later?

I guess you do have a point. It's just...complicated.

How so? [And he makes himself comfortable because he's not about to just leave it at that.]

I don't know. Maybe I'm just not ready to let go just yet.

[Because it's her attachment to home, a place she doesn't entirely remember.]

There's no shame in that, lass. [His voice is slightly softer, because he can understand all that. He's kept his boat docked all this time, after all.] Just don't get yourself too lost in what was. What could be is brighter every day.
