[The Dragon's Hoard's wing is located in the farthest corner of the first floor of the castle from where the squire bedrooms are, rather than immediately by the laboratory. Following the equipment briefing, Lis'sa had asked James to come to her office there on Wednesday morning so that they might get a chance to finally sit and talk about his squiring period. Hopefully, he has no problems locating the place.]

Because most people don't dare ask.

Dare ask? You are not so frightening to warrant such wording unless you have frightened off others by your mere words. Have you? [And yes he's looking rather amused at this idea.]

Words are hardly the only way to be intimidating.

And if someone is intimidated by a lady with a sharp tongue and intelligence than that, is entirely their own problem. [Now if he could remember someone else like her this would be even more interesting but amnesia sucks eggs so he's just smiling at that.]

Personally, I look at it as an advantage for me. [She looks him over carefully for a moment] So what kind of advantages do you have?

And that is hardly much of a surprise to me. [He tilts his head at that question though, looking much more amused by things then he probably should.] What do you think my advantages are? Surely you must have some idea, as well informed about things as you are.

Well, you're obviously very good at avoiding straight answers.

That I am, however at my age, is it much of a surprise? [One didn't live to the age of 95 without some tricks did they?] And a gentleman hardly shares his talents, after all boasting is hardly an admirable trait is it?

Whereas trying to draw a list of praises out of others is?

Just checking. With great intelligence often comes great ego.

With age comes some semblance of humility though or so I am told. [Yes he has an ego he'll admit it.] And that is truly all that is, remarkable about myself, along with the skills gained through age and my curiosity into such things. [Very much ignoring any mention of the machine hidden under his shirt yup, that's not remarkable at all.]

Those certainly aren't things to be underestimated, at any rate.

No they are not, I am a doctor, and an inventor if you would like specifics. My knowledge is both medical and scientific, if that is of any interest to you, along with a passion for deductive reasoning. [There he likes you enough to tell you what all he can do Lis'sa. Happy?]

I'm pleased to hear it, either way. We have more than enough muscle around this place, and our labs can always use a new perspective.

[He's not going to say that she was no fun really.

That I can believe, new perspectives lead to new inventions and the like. [He pauses for a moment to look actually serious for once before going on.] Are any of your people, familiar with life prolonging devices?

Prolonging against what? Natural aging? Disease?

Natural aging. Not much can be done for disease, unless you have found something.

A lot of men seek for immortality. Through scientific and magical means.

Immortality implies living forever through limited means of killing ones self. What I speak of, is a scientific approach to longevity, a longer life with an eventual end. [He says it like a teacher chiding a student for that. ~~And he doesn't care who she is either 8|.~~] Have you heard of anything like that?

I know the difference. But the reasons most people ask are the same: they seek control over their own mortality.

But in terms of purely medical advancements in the field, we have a couple specialists.

The better question is: why do you ask?

Before I answer that, what is your take on such things? [How much trouble/grief/side eyeing/judgemental line facing is he going to have to endure more than the norm?]

I'm not going to judge you. Most of medical science is about preserving life. There's nothing wrong with that.

No there's not, is there? [He tilts his head some at her as he thinks, before nodding like he's finally decided on something.] I am ninety-five years old kept alive by a device strapped to my chest.
