Never a dull moment.

The night of the funeral was certainly eventful: as expected, some of Chad's goons appeared at the cemetery, apparently in search of the buried necklace, and the Knights barely managed to escape with their lives thanks to the appearance of a giant dune-winder worm at the beck and call of a necromancer. Yep. The other team had their own share of adventure at the hotel, and though they couldn't get Nadia to leave with them, they did establish contact, and swiped Decker Greenwall's mysterious hourglass artifact from his room at Dumage's prompting. They also ran afoul of a doppelganger in the employ of the other side, who prompted Elena to begin questioning exactly who or what she might be...

And of course, they finally met with Rafael's lawyer, a last minute replacement for Burt's usual guy, who had met with an unfortunate skiing accident or... something. Jeggred 'Jaka' Teken'Duis, and his brother Nym, garnered a great deal of suspicion from the team from the start, although Jaka seems entirely confident that he can get Rafael off on a temporary insanity plea. Either way, he's agreed to help them look for clues to try to illustrate Chad's role in events at the upcoming trial, and suggested, to that end, breaking into his Chicago office, one of many not-quite-legal suggestions he hinted at during their pow-wow.

All those Knights who are looking to assist him are meeting up with Jaka in a parking garage a few blocks away from the NOVA building, at his invitation.  In fact, he's already there, leaning against his car, when they arrive.

[TOO BAD THERE'S NOTHING THERE...

Des sees this as a victory and heads out, whispering as he goes:]

What the hell was spiders-for-brains hoping we'd even find in here? All joking about files labeled EVIL PLANS, aside, he had to have had some idea of what they'd just have on hand.

[ as des starts to step out, spike sees the shadow of a figure starting to round the bend at the end of the hall... woopsie, security guard... ]

[Spike catches Des and pushes him back into the room. He pulls the door shut as quietly as he can (move silently 26). He doesn't think he needs to... actively say someone's coming.]

[WELL MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE, because as soon as Des is back in the room, he looks like he's about to start swinging. His wis check was a... five. Sue him.]

[well finnick's wis check was 15, so at least he's got that going for him. and decides to reiterate for the folks at home (i.e. des):] Is someone coming?

Obviously. If you two'd like to try being quiet now?

[Whatever, you two are just jealous of his mad private eye skillz. Anyway, he's listening as well (listen 18).]

[Des finally stops listening after a few seconds and lowers his voice.] Look, the girls [and archer] are probably out there by now. We need to scoot. It ain't like we don't have an alibi if we get caught.

[And Des and Finnick's extremely high diplomacy scores. And Des's bluff score.]

[ plus the steps seem to have receded... the coast may be clear! ]

He's right. [so he's going to be the one with the biggest dick and walk out of the room like he was just chillin'. acting sneaky just makes you look sketchy.]

[Whatever, Spike's major talent here is hitting people very hard, and he doubts that'll help their alibi. But he's not about to let Finnick and Des have all the fun on the off chance hitting IS in the plan so he heads after Finnick with a shrug.]

[CASUALLY WALKING DOWN THE HALL.

LIKE BOSSES. Who are totally supposed to be here today.]

[ and around the corner... is a guard, who has stopped to inspect some power switches. he looks up at them and squints, before his eyes fix on finnick. ]

Oh, er, hello sir. [ his eyes flit across the other two ] Late night.

[Spike's pretty sure it's a good time to let the people with existent diplomacy checks do the talking, so he just crosses his arms and looks bodyguard like.]

[Des casually takes the lead on this.] You ain't kidding. I've got a stack of proposals ten miles long. Everyone and their dog wants a piece of my boy here. That dame's body's not even worm food yet and they're barking for deets. We gotta figure out a game plan after hours or else Finnick gets overwhelmed.

[bluff 20. He could do so much better but it obviously kills him to be cavalier about jade.]

I get overwhelmed so easily. [bluff 25. things have been stressful since the concert, ok. he can totally sell being a precious tropical flower.]

Right, right. [ he bobs his head in apologetic understanding several times, slipping the hat off his head respectfully ] I'd heard it was a sticky situation. Suppose that's why Mr. Becksworth has us working overtime.

It's a hotter mess than a Kardashian Christmas special. [he puffs out his cheeks in a dramatic sigh.] But the less said the better. We're on our way out. [you know. before someone really calls their bs.]

Have a good night. [finnick gives a little half-wave before continuing down the hall. we're gonna make it y'all. this is the home stretch.]

You too. [ and he waves them on by, turning back to the grid as if it ain't no thing. just as they're about to enter the stairwell, he pipes up again: ] Mr. Becksworth here too?

[SO CLOSE. Des barks a laugh and he doesn't even have to bluff this much.]

Burt? Nah. He's too busy counting his money. He's leaving the stress to me and Giovanni's manager .

[Oh my god why aren't they gone yet? Spike shoots the guard a dirty look.]

Do you mind, mate? Very important pop star trying to go home.

[Bluff 12. Seriously, Spike, leave this to the professionals.]
