Never a dull moment.

The night of the funeral was certainly eventful: as expected, some of Chad's goons appeared at the cemetery, apparently in search of the buried necklace, and the Knights barely managed to escape with their lives thanks to the appearance of a giant dune-winder worm at the beck and call of a necromancer. Yep. The other team had their own share of adventure at the hotel, and though they couldn't get Nadia to leave with them, they did establish contact, and swiped Decker Greenwall's mysterious hourglass artifact from his room at Dumage's prompting. They also ran afoul of a doppelganger in the employ of the other side, who prompted Elena to begin questioning exactly who or what she might be...

And of course, they finally met with Rafael's lawyer, a last minute replacement for Burt's usual guy, who had met with an unfortunate skiing accident or... something. Jeggred 'Jaka' Teken'Duis, and his brother Nym, garnered a great deal of suspicion from the team from the start, although Jaka seems entirely confident that he can get Rafael off on a temporary insanity plea. Either way, he's agreed to help them look for clues to try to illustrate Chad's role in events at the upcoming trial, and suggested, to that end, breaking into his Chicago office, one of many not-quite-legal suggestions he hinted at during their pow-wow.

All those Knights who are looking to assist him are meeting up with Jaka in a parking garage a few blocks away from the NOVA building, at his invitation.  In fact, he's already there, leaning against his car, when they arrive.

I'd prefer to punch you in the nuts. [They're gonna be besties.] But in lieu of that I'll take some elaboration. What does House Baenre have stake in that would set them on us? And what are they gonna do when they find out we murdered Fluffy?

Be more subtle next time. And brutal. [ shrug ] There were only two outcomes they could have expected from this. They probably meant to gain from both. Either you'd be dead, which they clearly wish, for some reason, or you'd have tipped your hand and demonstrated what you were capable of so they can better plan to make their next move.

[That sounds ominous. What is more brutal than a murderous spider? You know what, don't answer that. She doesn't want to know.]

I'll go get the car. [And she is going to start jogging to go do that.] Spike, throw me the keys.

[SPIKE HAS BUFFY IN HIS ARMS THIS ISN'T EXACTLY A WORKABLE PLAN. He looks around hopelessly.]

They're in my pocket. I can't... [He looks down anxiously at Buffy.]

They haven't seen everything we can do. [he has begrudgingly accepted jaka's life, however, because god knows if he was going to screw them, now would be the time,but he's helping so... it's complicated.] I'll drive. C'mon, Buttercup. Take a breather.

[ she doesn't verbally respond, because whoa dizzy and nauseous and poison is bad, but she does begin to dig through spike's pockets slowly (fort save 15, search 15). she manages to find them and pulls them out, tossing them haphazardly in vi's direction (str 24). it's pretty much like watching a drunk person give up their keys. she's still butthurt about being forced to the cleric. ]

[Vi manages to grab the keys (reflex save 19), but with Buffy's drunk toss she has to go wide to snatch them out of the air, which just makes her stumble into Des as she overcompensates. Sorry, bro.] Okay, old man, whatever you say. Race you. [And she's off and running! But over her shoulder comes a shout:] We'll be right back. No one die.

[Ears still ringing, but it's getting a bit better, Archer still isn't 100% sure what's going on... but he makes his way towards Jaka - hilariously attempting to follow Elena's lead with the "Shh" by whispering.. but it still sounds like yelling, just quieter.]

[Archer points at the guns....]
NICE SHOOTING HE-MAN. WHAT'S THAT THING WEIGH LIKE 1,000 POUNDS?

[Elena is just glad that everyone seems like they're going to make it, and that they're getting out of here to the help they need.

Archer apparently getting his hearing back slowly is a relief too. She wouldn't wish what happened on her to anyone else.

She grins, leading him towards where the others are leaving by placing her hand against his back.]

Yeah, we kicked ass, didn't we?
