The big day has finally arrived.  As media coverage rises to a frenzied fever pitch, Jaka's final preparations are completed, and the team assembles to head down for the trial of Rafael Giovanni.   

Large crowds are gathered outside, some of whom tote signs condemning Rafael as a murderer, others pledging their support and love for the singer.  Police officers keep order, and hold the crowds back as the stars are led up the steps and inside the courthouse.  

They'll have some time to convene with Burt and Jaka in a private room before the trial itself begins.  Unfortunately, Jaka still hasn't shared the change in plans that he and Des discussed in private...

Prosecution calls Mark Sandazhard.

[ with a nat 20 will save, mark doesn't so much as flinch as he rises, stone-faced, from the benches and makes his way up to be sworn in. his voice is steady, and he doesn't even spare rafael a second glance as he sits down and looks her coolly in the face. ]

[Myri sits up straighter as the lawyer calls Mark's name. Her eyes never leave him as he makes his way to the stand.

For the first time in her life, she wishes she could have the same sort of telepathic connection with someone else like she does with Amaranth. All she wants to do is tell him that he's going to do great, that it's going to be fine.]

Mr. Sandazhard, were you at the concert on the night in question?

[ another nat 20, aw yeah rock solid ] I was. I was working as a bodyguard for Mr. Giovanni.

Were you part of the security hired by Nova records?

[nosdacariad]

Through Mr. Giovanni, yeah.

[llllllaurel]

Did they convey to you why they needed so much security for the concert?

[nosdacariad]

No, and I didn't ask. I was there to do a job. We don't always get the personal details ahead of time.

[llllllaurel]

[Her eyebrows go up.]

If you don't know what you're supposed to protect him against, how do you know what to recognize? How can you effectively do your job?

[nosdacariad]

He's a superstar. Our training for how to guard anyone that famous covers every angle. It's what I do.

[llllllaurel]

[She nods slowly.]

And what specifically where you doing on the night of the concert?

[nosdacariad]

I was on guard at the back door. That's why it took me a little longer to make it on stage when everything went down.

And you didn't notice anyone unusual going in and out of venue? Someone you hadn't seen before?

[nosdacariad]

No. [ (his bluff check of 27 is s-so sincere) ] But I hear there were a few other toughs already backstage disguised as stagehands.

[And her sense motive of 19 can't even catch it. She frowns slightly, before moving on.]

Who determined who was allowed access to the stage that night?

[nosdacariad]

Venue security, most likely. They handle their own employees. I arrived with Mr. Giovanni, so it wasn't an issue for me.

Mr. Giovanni wasn't given any choice over who came and went?

[nosdacariad]

Just a couple friends he gave VIP treatment.

What about his agent, Mr. Becksworth?

[nosdacariad]

He had authority to bring in guests of his own too, I suppose.

[llllllaurel]

Was your point of entrance the only one?

[nosdacariad]

I think that would be a bit of a safety hazard, don't you? No. It wasn't. You could enter the backstage area from inside the concert hall.

[llllllaurel]

But inside the concert hall, it's likely that many more people would have seen him approach, no? Given the amount of people in attendance?

People whose eyes were riveted on the stage. The accesses are through side hallways. It's not like he would have been shoving his way through a crowd.
