The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Hook's not sure he qualifies on the best of days. Pan, on the other hand? Definitely doesn't.]

[R U D E. And kind of a good point. Hook's sure some others have asked it as well. Emma, for example. The problem is, all serious answers he could give, like that he's here for redemption or a second chance or because he has nowhere else to go, could probably be turned over on him by Pan, though Hook wouldn't believe him for a minute. He could tell Pan it's none of his business, but again, Pan could say just the same thing.]

[Pan scoffs, clearly as amused as he is skeptical.] And I suppose all of the pillaging and plundering that comes with being a pirate was just... what, exactly? And that's not to mention the work you did for me. [WHATEVER THAT WAS.] Face it, Killian, your hands aren't clean-- well. [He inclines his head towards the man's hook.] Hand.

[Was that really necessary? Hook's expression grows even grimmer. He doesn't need reminding of how many bad things he's done. He's well aware, and not particularly proud. He also doesn't need reminding of how many hands he has, come on, Pan, that's only funny when it's him doing it.

But he can be better. He was a man of honor once. How hard can it be to recapture that?]

Perhaps neither of us belong. Doesn't explain why you're here. Isn't this crowd a bit older than your usual playmates?

[Hook's right, of course. This crowd isn't one you'd likely find Pan in, it's not one he'd ever really be near without some reason.]

I came for the promise of adventure, of course. [And to get out of subsistence living in New York, especially after his little gang of youthful miscreants got eaten broke up.]

Adventure. [Hook sounds so skeptical. I mean it sort of sounds like Peter Pan but it seems so... simple. So harmless and uncalculating. There has to be more than that.]

That's right. [Pan sounds... fairly convincing, but, though it's not immediately obvious, it's probably apparent that there's more to it than that (bluff 15). He gives a sharp grin, as if he's daring Hook to question him further-- not that it'll get him to actually admit his true motives.] Don't sound so skeptical.

[Good thing Hook got a NAT 20 sense motive. The dice know never to believe Pan ever.]

Why not? I am skeptical. Seems only... honest.

[Geez Hook, you're so paranoid. He lets out a laugh.]

Why bother with all these questions if you're not going to believe me? Do you think I've come to destroy everything you've built for yourself here?

Whether or not it's your intent, I'm certain you'd be more than happy to make it happen.

[Well, yeah, you got that right.]

Now, Killian, why would I go and do that? [Besides: because it's fun. Because he can. Because because because...] We worked together before, don't you remember? Think of this as... resuming that partnership.

[He does remember, though the why eludes him as much as why he'd gone to Neverland in the first place. What doesn't elude him is that it had never been his greatest plan. Pan was a snake. A demon. Hook very much doubts that has changed.]

I get the feeling I wouldn't much like what you ask for in my part of the bargain.

[He spreads his hands.]

I'm not asking for anything. [There's a definite "yet" hanging in the air.] I'm assuming, after all, that you're clever enough not to try and jeopardize what I have here if I give you the same courtesy.

That depends a great deal on what you have. [Hook is happy to keep his distance. But not if it means people he cares about getting hurt. If it's people he doesn't care about..... well, he'll have to think a bit harder on how much he's willing to risk there.]
