after-party ♔ february

♬ Kodo (Inside the Sun remix) - Yoshida Brothers
WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || February 1st, 2014, 6:00PM [backdated]
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam
The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme. With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity. Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.
The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums. People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.
As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.
Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.
Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

[This time he deludes by changing the focus of the conversation. (bluff 16)]
I did almost take a dive into stormy sea though, but David saved me. Trying to stand steadily on a ship was pretty hard but at least it wasn't as rough as trying to get out of the closet, right?
no subject
Right. Of course.
[Again, it's not her place to say anything, and if something in his mission went wrong and he got himself in trouble, there's plenty of people that would be on his ass before her.]

Uh... Bo? You mind if I borrow my squire and go get us some drinks. I'll be right back. Promise.
[Just would like to take Brantley aside and check on things, okay.]
no subject
No problem. [She leans in and kisses him on the cheek.] Come find me when you're done.
[And off she goes. Have fun, boys.]

Hey, Andrew, ummmm.... you've spent your whole life in this place, right? Did you ever think of doing something else?
[He is still smiling but not as wide as before.]
no subject
Huh? Oh- yeah. I didn't actually plan on joining up for awhile. I grew up around this but I only joined about five years ago or so. Why? Having second thoughts? Something happen out there?

Don't...don't beat yourself up okay? First mission is always tough. But if you don't like the work, I won't hold it against you if you want to go. For what it's worth, you seem knight material to me.
no subject
Really? Which part of me that is a good knight material? Is it my talking skill that is so high I can't even convince someone to get off his phone? Or maybe it is the way I fall and hit the ground with my face that shows my excellent physical abilities. Oh I know, Sir Bancroft said my empathy would do me good... in getting myself killed quickly. So, if a knight material is someone who can die in a comedic manner, you are absolutely correct! I am a knight material!
[Add a spoonful of stress from the mission, a few pinches of hatred of magical fireworks, a block of midlife crisis and let the dough rises. Voila! You got yourself a psychotic self-hating fixer. And rather than angry he says all that with a calm smile and peaceful tone, which make him looks crazier than a chainsaw-wielding birthday clown. Maybe this is a good time to use that sleeping gas from the orientation.]

But you can't just pick the parts that didn't work out and decide that it means you aren't good enough. You're brand fucking new! You've been on one mission, and they sent you out there with a bloody Dragon's Claw- which, for the record, is cool as hell. If you knew what kind of knight were you were going to be already, you wouldn't need to be a squire. You'd just... jump ahead, skip those chapters and take the final exam.

[He rubs his hand over his face.] You're not useless. You're not... fucking old either. You're just new. You've got to give yourself time to get used to this place, learn the ropes. I was squired for a year longer than my younger brother before they promoted me. It's not something everyone just knows how to do. But it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you.

Thanks. [He awkwardly rubs the back of his neck.] You're pretty cool yourself. And you'll find your place here. If you don't believe in yourself about that, just believe in me instead, alright?

[He's not really sure who in the Dragon's Tongue he can get to talk to Brantley, but that would be the first place he would start. But they can worry about that another day. No sense getting too bogged down in business at a party, right?]
