The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme. With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity. Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums. People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

[A bitter lesson with a bloody price.] Yeah, you're right. We just have to make sure not to make some mistakes when it means the most. [His smile weakens but it contains his real feelings now.]

[He nods.]

Exactly. It'll get easier to figure out.

You've been a Knight for a while, right? What do you think about all of this, this whole place, its people, and the stuff we do? [Because currently, he thinks that the Knight is great but somehow something is off, like a waking dream.]

I think we do good things.

[He pauses for a moment as he takes another sip of his drink.]

Both the missions I've been on, I've had the chance to rescue people who needed it. No one was going to save them and they couldn't save themselves.

[Both the homo magi and the Slovechnians were headed for death or worse.]

It doesn't ever turn out perfectly, but nothing does. What you need to figure out is if, for you, the ends are worth it.

[Usually for him it is.]

Yeah, the stuffs we do, it's amazing. [Brantley nods with a smile.] I've always wanted do heroic stuffs like this since I was a kid. That's why I join the Knight. But somehow, even though I can help more people now than before, I miss my old life.

What did you do before?

[Because he doesn't think he ever asked.]

I was a fixer. [Technically he still is, but not as much as he used to be.] I provided things to people, whether they were get-out-of-jail cards or cheap contraband. It might sounds like I was helping criminals, but most of my clients were people who want second chance. And some of them did need illegal stuff to survive, like a vampire who needs blood. But I did help real criminal sometimes, so I wasn't exactly clean either. It was not a great life, but I enjoyed it.

So what made you join the knights?

[Because he assumes there has to be a reason, if he likes what he did before.]

Because being a hero who saves the world sounded way better than being a criminal who smuggles people in and out. I thought I could actually make a difference in this place, save more people. We do but... I don't know... maybe I'm just not used to the whole things yet. [He sighs before continuing.] What about you? Why did you join the Knights?

I'm good at it.

[Honestly, that's really what it is. This is what he does. He spent twelve years as a warrior, as a champion, as a fighter that he doesn't know how to do anything else. He fell through the veil and this was all he had.]

It's a world I understand.

Guess some people do have heroes mixed in their blood.

[He sighs.]

A part of me wishes for a peaceful life away from all the troubles. But the other part wants to be a hero who goes on adventure to save the day.

[He sighs again.]

Have you ever thought of doing anything else? Having a life away from all the fighting?

[He pauses, considering it all for the moment, before shaking his head.]

Fighting is who I am. I'm happier doing it than I am without.

[It's good to be moving and fighting and having purpose. He doesn't think a peaceful life would ever suit him.]

[Brantley stays in silent for a quick moment, having doubts about his resolution. He wishes to be as determined as David, but it's hard to let go of those thoughts. He then returns a smile to David as he shuts his sad thoughts.] I think I should stick to you more, absorbing some of your heroic traits.

[He shrugs again, trying to brush off the fact that he doesn't view himself as a hero. But all the same, he won't not take the compliment.]

If you think it would help, but I think you're doing okay on your own.

Even if I look fine on my own, that doesn't mean I shouldn't stay near you. Even the strongest Knight needs someone to watch over his back, right? Besides, I like watching you. [Totally not in a creepy way.] So, even if you're actively avoiding me. Too bad. You're already on my list of people who I won't leave alone. [Okay, that sounds a bit creepy. But still...] Just accept that you're my friend and friends stay together, okay?

[He smirks a bit at that before nodding.]

I think I can live with that.

Well, I'll give you some time before I nag you more. [He sends out a big smile.] Thanks for the support. I feel better now. Have a good evening, pal. [And he scoots away.]
